“First class New Year break”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

We stayed for three nights, over New Year, with a special dinner for New Years eve in Purdeys their main restaurant.
The weather was poor so it was the perfect excuse to relax. The hotel is very well appointed and our room, that was accessed by a walk outside, was perfect. It had a large 6ft wide bed, large and well fitted out bathroom, with Elimis toiletries and large fluffy bath sheets. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. All the staff are very friendly with prompt attention if you needed anything.
The New Years meal was excellent. Champagne to meet and greet, the 5/6 course meal was exceptional. All the food that was hot was hot and all cold food was cold. We have been to so many function meals where the food is only mediocre at best. This was the exception.
We were Piped in to the meal and after dancing till midnight the Piper returned to meet the New Year. Excellent.
Breakfast the next morning had been extender till 11 o'clock, very understanding.
We left on the 2nd January feeling relaxed and ready to meet 2014.

Room Tip: As most of the rooms are not situated in the main complex of buildings, noise is not an issue. The F...

We stayed over New Year for a week in a one bedroom lodge, which we had exchanged our timeshare for. Having been timeshare owners for a number of years, we have exchanged to many different resorts, in the UK and overseas. Langdale compares well with other UK resorts, and is amongst the better ones. However it is not perfect.

The lodge was a fairly standard layout, with open plan living space (including pull down bed), bathroom and bedroom. An useful addition, given the time of year, was the drying cupboard.

The kitchen had been recently renovated, and was well equipped, although the crockery was dated looking, an there were no roasting trays for the oven except the grill tray. Also included a full size dishwasher and fridge/freezer.

The living space was fine, with a three piece leather suite and LCD TV with FreeSat.

The bathroom had also been recently renovated, and included a shower bath with push button shower and whirlpool bath. Shower was good, but the boost button did not work as intended (I suspect due to air bubbles being pulled through the pump). Whirlpool bath was OK, but the power switch for it was hidden in the kitchen sink cupboard out of sight.

Bedroom was dated looking, with twin beds. The beds and bedding were poor quality, with lumpy duvets and poor fitting sheets that would not stay on the mattress.

Cleanliness was OK on the surface, but less visible areas needed cleaning.

We had a problem with the heating when we arrived, which was looked at by the duty manager, but not fixed. Electric heaters were supplied in case we got cold, and the heating fixed the following morning (by turning up the boiler which we did not have access to). Note that electricity and gas are metered in the lodges and you are charged on check out - although staff do not tell you this on check in, or provide rates.

This is quite a large resort, with many lodges and hotel rooms, and extensive grounds. We did not use any of the bars or restaurants on site or nearby, but did use the spa. The actual facilities in the spa are good - a good size pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room etc, however, did not have the usual tranquil feeling of a spa as this was the main swimming pool full of children playing most of the time (certain times of day are child free). I'd be disappointed if I had selected the hotel because of it's spa facilities.

The location is the best thing about this resort. It's far enough off the beaten track in the Lakes to avoid the crowds in Ambleside and Windermere but close enough if you want to visit those places. It's a great place to walk from - with many walks being possible from the resort.

We come from another hotel with a spa ticket, we got there after 5pm to be told that it was members only,
The guy changed our date with no hassle :-)
We come back the next day and was told they was booked up for all treatments on that day and the next very disappointed by this.
The pool was lovely but too many kids playing with balls in the pool and running around jumping in when trying to relax,
2nd day back there was ok very busy around the pool area suna was good but too hot for me tho.

All round trying to find the place was hard work as was taken the back way there very bad road.

Arrived 10pm last Saturday night. Surprised to be told that check-out was 1030 next morning, seemed too early for a relaxing Sunday morning. Asked if there was any flexibility. No. Repeated request and was offered extra two hours for £20. Not impressed and declined the offer. Feeling unhappy about the place and only been there five minutes. Asked for my displeasure to be conveyed to duty manager. Receptionist then became quite rude and unco-operative. Sent us off to find our room which was in another building, entailed packing bags back in car and driving to another car park. Got to room, keycards didn't work. Walk back in the dark and damp to our not-so-genial host. She told me we could have an extra hour in the morning, whoopee! Gave me two new keycards which worked. Wonder why she couldn't do that first time. Room ok. Breakfast chaotic shambles. Staff run off feet, commendably kept their cool but little went according to plan. My wife's poached egg ordered from the kitchen hard as a golf ball. Sent it back, second time around perfect. Wonder why they couldn't do that first time. Pool and spa good but very busy, jacuzzi packed, no loungers free, so headed for bar to watch the football but that was full too, nowhere to sit with a view of the screen. Looks like the place can't cope with the numbers it attracts but hey, a warm and friendly welcome would go a long way to help.

We stayed there for two nights for New Year's Eve as a family of three and the place was beautiful, staff friendly, rooms perfect and I would defiantly recommend to anyone, especially to a couple for the feature rooms although we stayed in a family room. The only thing I would suggest and I got this tip from this website is take a torch!!!! The lighting is poor to get to the lovely Wainwrights Inn down the road which serves beautiful food and the staff are really friendly. The road is not well lit, so without a torch you won't be able to see so that is my only tip and advise. Other than that the place was fab, the food was tasty and I couldn't of asked for a nicer place to see 2014 in. 5 star and ten out of ten from us!

My wife and I have stayed at the Hotel part several times in the past when you really could pick up a last minute bargain, and we took our eldest 2 or 3 times when she was a toddler. Now she's 10 and has been joined by a sister (6), we thought we'd try a lodge.

We booked a long weekend on the August Bank Holiday, almost 'last minute'. It's fairly pricey - but you really do feel like you very much get what you pay for. The quality of the lodges is fantastic, and the inventory of equipment & utensils unsurpassed.

But the jewel is the location. It's impossible not to find a sense of peace in the grounds, and the clientele are great; everyone is respectful and polite, nobody loud or obnoxious. The leisure facilities & pool are wonderful. The staff helpful & friendly.

Our only gripe was at the Purdey's Restaurant. Having eaten some amazing meals there in times past, I was expecting great things - especially as the prices have more than kept up with the times. The restaurant was far from full, but we had to wait over half an hour from ordering for our starters, then another 45 minutes for our mains. By this time, our youngest was nodding off to sleep and past eating. The restaurant manager was actually very sympathetic and made a generous discount, hinting that things weren't running smooth between the chef and front of house, so ultimately no harm done.

Overall, a wonderful place to stay and we'll hopefully be returning to a lodge in 2014.

Every time we stay here we stay in the ultimate rooms. 105 is our favourite! Beautiful room but I'm really sorry- the rest of your hotel really let's you down! We had a spa treatment first and then checked in! Our greeting was - how did they let you in the pool area without a pass? I couldn't care less how they let me in. We has treatments and just blew £200 up there and are about to stay in your most expensive room?. The room was as beautiful as ever! Your ultimate rooms are very special! We complained when we left last time as there was a bag of weed under my bed- I found when trying to plug in my phone charger! No weed this time but somehow doesn't feel quite as clean as it could be... There are marks on the ceiling too, maybe water marks.
Maybe it's time you did a refurb on your restaurant as its put us off when we've thought about dining there and communal areas need modernising.

Great room service though and room as Elemis products are great! Those baths are just divine as great, great decor in the ultimate rooms.
