“Another one for Beatrix Potter fans”

Many would dismiss the Armitt Museum as just another local amenity. What a mistake, small but quality exhibits include original drawings by Beatrix Potter, an original King James bible and many local pictures and artifacts.

“A Little Treasure”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

I came across this delightful little museum by accident. It isn't very easy to see from the road despite a banner advertising it. Once inside there is an amazing amount to see. Beatrix Potter and her husband were members of the Armitt and she was their greatest benefactor. She bequeathed her portfolio of natural history drawings and watercolours to the museum along with original copies of her little books. These are displayed well. Soft music plays whist you admire the genius of her work. There was also an exhibition of Kurtz Schwitter's Collection. He was a German refugee who arrived in Ambleside in 1945. A very interesting place to spend an hour.

“Super Museum with lots to see especially the Beatrix Potter archive”
Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

A must visit for "Potter Fans".
Loved the Armitt as it has many things in the Beatrix Potter archive "Image and Reality". The unique insight into her life story along with the many artefacts and original artwork on show is certainly better than the many commercial venues celebrating her links to the Lake District. In addition it is obvious on arrival that the staff are passionate about their museum, a true gem.

“Shouldn't this be The Armitt Museum?”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

And Rydal has just one 'l' because it's short for Rye Dale. On a rainy day (and there are many in Cumbria) this small museum is a good bet when most other attractions are out of doors.
