“Sometimes it's OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2014

Purdeys restaurant is part of the lovely Langdale Hotel. The restaurant has no atmosphere and definately needs some tlc. The menu looks attractive, but we have yet to have a meal that we have thoroughly enjoyed. We eat breakfast there, but from previous experiences do not dine there in the evening.

“Double AA? More like C-”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014 via mobile

Dined here whilst staying as a guest at Brimstone. This is Langdale Resort's premier restaurant, but it's not up to much. The decor is tired, and in need of a major refurb - think church hall scout hut, rather than fine dining establishment.

The service is honest, but unpolished and the food really isn't worth writing home about. Or talking about. In fact it's not even worth thinking about.

The monkfish main was dry and overcooked, caked in curry powder. It will remain in my memory for all the wrong reasons. My partner had cod in a chowder - the chowder was thin and tasteless. I can't even remember my starter and we didn't bother with dessert.

For the money, this place needs some serious work. It isn't a double AA restaurant, of that I'm certain. It's trying to be something it's not and isn't delivering.

If you're staying in Langdale and need some grub, head to Wainwrights. If you want some serious restaurant food, there's much to choose from in Grasmere. I'd sooner eat a Herdy's hoof than dine here again!
