“Good stay but some attention to detail needed”
Reviewed 3 February 2014

The Lake House is very pretty and in a great location next to the lake and boat cruises. The room was big, clean and comfortable. Service is good. Breakfast was good with a great view. However, it looks as if some room renovation is coming due. The carpet was a bit worn and the second bed's mattress was like a waterbed. Luckily the twin room consisted of a double and single bed so my husband was able to share the double bed with me and we could ignore the dodgy single bed. There was a spacious cupboard but we really could have done with fold out suitcase holders as we had to put our suitcases on the floor. A slightly unpleasant experience was running short of toilet paper on the second day as housekeeping never replaced it and having to ask for some at reception. Other than needing some attention to detail our stay was very pleasant.

My husband and I stayed at the Lake House for 2 nights in January as a little break away before our little bundle of joy arrived in april. The staff where very helpful and the food excellent. Our room was very clean, big and comfortable with a lovely view of the lake. They gave us the ground floor room as I was 30 weeks pregnant and didn't think I could manage all the stairs. On arriving to the hotel we where greeted by a member of staff who although very courteous; did speak very fast and didn't really give us any time to ask questions. Breakfast was fantastic, we took advantage of the full English every morning and porridge which they made especially for us. Ambleside is a lovely place to go for a short break with some very beautiful walks, however we where unable to attend most of the walks due to my pregnancy, so we amused ourselves by going shopping in Keswick and enjoying the amenities in Ambleside.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a room with a view of the lake.

My partner and I were excited about our weekend break in the lakes to breakup a boring January.we weren't disappointed and in room 5 we found a lovely relaxing room, spotlessly clean with fab views and no noise, you wouldn't have known anyone else was there! Despite the soggy weather we had a lovely couple of days. The lake House is perfectly located just a short walk to some great real ale pubs in ambleside and also a minute away from water head inn and regent hotel where we had a fab dinner. The breakfast was lovely, efficient and very tasty and I practically had to drag my boyfriend away from the buffet haha....all in all it was a great stay and we would definitely come back next time we are up in the lakes!!!!

Room Tip: Room 3 or 5 for the lake view, superior double!!

We stayed in Lake house for three nights as a gift from my partner for Christmas. beautiful location overlooking the lake. We stayed in room 3, the views from the window were something else! So lovely to wake up to each morning. Our room had the most comfortable bed I have slept in and the bathroom seemed newly refurbished to a high standard.
Staff were friendly, approachable and accommodating on all occasions. My partner is a vegetarian and staff very kindly provided vegetarian sausages for the breakfast which was a lovely touch to a brilliant stay. The breakfast had a good variety of cereals, juices and fried breakfast and certainty prepared us for the day ahead.
We took advantage of the "cosy night in" with 2 meals, a bottle of wine and a dvd of your choice delivered to our room. I'd highly recommend this one night after a busy day, it was lovely to relax and enjoy our room. The hotel is well locaed close to the lake, Ambleside and landmarks to enjoy. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Room 3 is on the front of the building overlooking the lake with a four poster bed.

My girlfriend and I decided to do something different and stay in the Lakes for New Year. We chose (very last minute) to stay at Lake House and overall we were quite impressed! The place is situated just off the river, about a ten minute walk into Ambleside, with great views of Windermere. As we had booked last minute we had a backwards facing room, which we expected - but the room itself was spacious and clean. The breakfast in the morning was also very good!

The only negative I had is similar to the previous review, we felt quite processed, and not like a proper guest of a B&B. One of the staff struggled with her English and when I asked where was good to go in the evening, she didn't really know!

All in all it was a pleasant stay, with a bit more organisation on my side I'm not sure I'd stay again though.

Room Tip: Any front facing rooms with a view!!!!!!

Many thanks for your review we are pleased that you had a pleasant stay with us but we are sorry to hear that you felt a bit processed. We have mentioned to the member of staff concerned but to be honest she does try hard and really just wants to please everybody.

we stayed at the Lake house for a base to enjoy news eve in Ambleside. The hotel is well furnished. Location is metres away from the Lake shore by the stretch of the term.
We did feel somewhat processed on arrival (not really a personal touch) and did not receive the mulled wine until we requested it in the evening.
In fairness though, we did only stay one night so unfair to form a full opinion.
Would we stay again? Lets say weve stayed at the Lake Side, so done that.

This was our 2nd visit and we were not disappointed. We stayed for 4 nights and booked a hideaway room again as we like being slightly removed from the main building. The room was spotlessly clean and contained everything you could want. We preferred the layout of the hideaway room we had the 1st time we stayed, which was up some stone steps, but the room this time was perfectly fine. There was a minor issue with the heating on the first evening, which was resolved immediately by an extremely helpful member of staff. On the first morning of our stay, there were two occasions when members of staff knocked then let themselves into our room, in order to clean the room, before we'd had a chance to open the door. Thankfully this did not happen again during our stay, but I would suggest that a system is devised in order for guests to let staff know when it is okay to clean the rooms, or embarrassing situations could potentially arise!! The breakfasts were faultless, really good quality sausage and bacon, and eggs cooked to order. The service was excellent. We would have no hesitation on recommending this establishment to friends and family, and would happily return here ourselves. Many thanks.
