“Perfect getaway”

We spent a lovely relaxing Bank Holiday at Lake House. I loved the genteel, unfussy country house feel to the decor and fittings. Despite being fully booked, it was utterly peaceful. The staff were always available and helpful, but not "in your face". Fantastic to have access to an ice bucket to chill our complimentary wine (another nice touch for booking direct with the guest house). We had room 10 at the top of the house, with our teens booked into 9 across the corridor. Room 10 is very spacious, has a lovely comfy large double bed and the most incredible view over the lake and hills. Room 9 is less spacious with a double and a single, but perfect for our kids. The breakfast was fab. Easy walking distance from the centre of Ambleside. We will definitely be back!

We decided to come here for a bank holiday Monday getaway.

A lovely hotel with lovely female staff. The room was lovely. The bed must have been a queen size!! Excellent. Very good mattress too!!

My only gripe was the young lad who checked us in. A little distant and came across rather abrupt.

Overall though we will most certainly return here for a weekend getaway.

Very good breakfast that was topped up regularly.

Really top quality accommodation at Lake House. Our room was huge and the king size bed was great.

View wasn't so brilliant as it just overlooked the car park and when we arrived we were greeted by a very fierce lady who seemed very much in a rush. I only mention this as I have stayed in many guest houses and B&Bs in the lakes an been very welcomed compared to this where it felt abit less so.

The breakfast was great and plenty choice.

The lady who served you has been with us for quite a long time now and is a valuable member of staff, but unfortunately she is still quite nervous but all she really wants is to be is ultra efficient and for everybody to enjoy there stay with us at Lake House.

Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back for a future visit.

The first thing I noticed on arrival was the charming old worldy feel of the guest house plus the fantastic location, setback enough to see windermere lake without any noise from the road below. The room was south west facing and sitting In the room with a glass of wine watching the sunset was a perfect way to unwind after a 2 1/2 drive.
The room had a modern and contemporary look and was spacious enough for 2 with an adequate size bathroom. However we had no shower curtain or fixed shower head which became frustrating as the whole bathroom floor became covered In water requiring drying with towels numerous occasions! Also the bath tap was extremely loose and hot water is volcanic In heat.....toooooo hot!
Breakfast was good and a wide selection with tea and coffee served by the waiting staff. One point however is the timing for breakfast in that items go dry quite quickly and you have to wait for it to be replenished, No big issue as the view makes up for it while you are waiting.
Location Is perfect with windermere literally stones throwaway, with several decent restaurants and pubs with beer gardens to while a way an afternoon or evening. Overall a great little place with character and enough on offer for a great weekend break.
I wouldn't hesitate in booking again.....but would request a room with a decent shower!

We recently stayed at the Lake House for a few nights and were impressed by how polite and hard working the staff were. The hotel is in a good location (10-15 min walk to town and a stroll to Lake Windemere). The breakfasts were really good- simple but always fresh. Again, the staff were very polite and attentive.

We stayed in room 4. The room itself was lovely- spacious and very clean although it had no view of the lake. The bed was really comfy and we slept well. Our only criticism is of the bathroom. We had a bath with a shower head attached to the taps. This would have been fine, if we had some sort of shower curtain or screen. As hard as we tried, it proved impossible to keep the water in the bath and as a result the bathroom floor was always left soaked- quite dangerous!

We would stay at the hotel again but would ask for a different room as having to dry the bathroom floor every day became annoying.

Room Tip: Avoid room 4!

I needed to spend the night in Ambleside to break a trip from London to Edinburgh and booked myself and my wife into the Lake House hotel. We had one of the hideaway rooms. All I can say is that I wish I had been able to stay for longer. The room was clean and well furnished and we were welcomed to the hotel on our arrival. This was not my first choice of hotel on booking but I will certainly be back because I was very pleasantly surprised.
