We stayed at The Fisherbeck for 3 nights. The hotel location was ideal, situated a few minutes walk from Ambleside town centre. The staff and service received was excellent. Our room was clean, with plenty of room and the most stunning view of the hills on the horizon. We had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. A variety of breakfast options were presented to us, we thought the cooked breakfast was clean and not greasy. The scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on bagel was simply delicious. Overall, a hotel with a great location and service. We booked directly with the hotel.

A repeat trip to the lakes. Ambleside is a great place to base yourself with ample outdoor shops, pubs, restaurants, a cinema and very good access to some decent hikes.

We've stayed at the Fisherbeck before and a return booking was a 'no-brainier'. The owners are amazingly friendly, the service second to none and the facilities great (warm, dry, clean, rooms to a high spec. and lots of staff to tend to you over breakfast)

What caught my attention this time was the attention to detail. The breakfast menu is extensive, but the quality of food exceptional with locally sourced free range eggs and specially sourced coffee to die for to give just a few examples.

And don't forget that if you get drenched whilst out, you can just dump your wet gear in reception and it will be dried for you overnight free of charge ready for your next days activities.

Why stay anywhere else?? The Fisherbeck is a must in our eyes.

We booked a room on the internet the day before .Very competitive rate. The room was well appointed clean and comfortable.Situated at the rear of the hotel but that is to be expected for the price we paid.Breakfast was first class plenty of choice and friendly staff nice decor and attention to detail

We stayed in room 11; the decor was contemporary and of a high standard. We loved the bathroom and the shower was great. We loved the sheepskin rugs at the sides of the bed, a sumptuous contrast from the tiled floor when getting in and out of bed. The linen and towels were gorgeous as we're all the little thoughtful extras. We were blessed by glorious weather and spent afternoons on the seating area outside our room basking in the sun and enjoying the views. The breakfasts are lovely and the hospitality was amazing. We got married nearby while we were there and can honestly say we could not have wished for a more special place to stay for our honeymoon. It's a great location to stay to travel from to visit all the spectacular and amazing views on offer here. Thanks to all of the staff for an enjoyable stay, we look forward to seeing you again. We stayed at Fisherbeck for one night recently. Although we often visit the Lake District, this was our first time at this hotel.
It's a good location - on Lake Road and just near the garden centre (if you know the area). It's an easy walk into the village or down to Waterhead and although the hotel is on a main road, it is set back enough to be fairly quiet. Our room was clean and a reasonable size. The bathroom was a decent size also with spa bath and shower. We enjoyed breakfast also. Good choice with table service (which we prefer to the normal buffet scramble) and pleasant staff.
Sleep quality could have been better. The various extractor fans and plumbing noises were an unwelcome dawn chorus. Felt like the bed had some sort of plastic cover under the cotton sheets also.
Accomodation always comes at a premium in the Lakes. This hotel is good value by comparison and ticks most of the boxes. The decor lets it down though. Although recently decorated in many areas, the style is too 1980's for us. The rooms are better but the public areas aren't impressive.
There are so many other hotels with old world charm and features that I fear Fisherbeck will struggle to compete on anything but price unless it can adapt.
But - we had no complaints. Good value, good location and clean hotel. Just don't expect a 'wow'.
