“Fabulous new rooms and balconies”
Reviewed 21 February 2010

We were lucky enough to visit the Fisherbeck again this year.

We've already had a fabulous stay in Woodside Cottage attached to the hotel when it first opened. Modern chic decor ~ quite a refreshing change for the Lakes.

There has been further refurbishment with stunning and comfy lounge areas as well glass fronted balconies with uninterrupted views of the hills. We really liked the refurbished wing with natural tones, large beds and fantastic bathrooms.

Clean, modern and friendly ~ fantastic. Can't wait to go again sometime. They're advertising two new properties for rent so we'll be spoilt for choice!

First of all we need to thank my sister and brother-in-law Karen and Pete for sending us to stay at the Fisherbeck! It was a present for our blossoming relationship as they couldn't make the trip themselves, and bless them for thinking of us. What a gem of a hotel/guesthouse the Fisherbeck is!
As soon as we stepped into the reception area all our stresses and strains melted away. The atmosphere is so relaxing that we defy anyone to stay uptight for long!
We stayed in one of the garden rooms - initially for one night - which was divine, with a bathroom to die for ........ it was a fight to see who got the bath and who got the shower, as each were sublime!
Needless to say, one night was not enough, and our host offered us a three night deal, with the offer of a packed breakfast for our early start on the Monday ...... we took this offer up with alacrity.
The service, accomodation and food were top of the range, and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff.
We will be visiting this little peice of heaven again in the not too distant future, and look forward to relaxing in the warmth and comfort of The Fisherbeck.

This was our first stay at The Fisherbeck, definately won't be our last.
The hotel owners are very welcoming, efficient & friendly staff.
Our room was lovely, breakfast is beautifully cooked and presented.
A large car park on the hotel grounds is an addd bonus.
The hotel location is excellent, just a short stroll to the village.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

I was caught up in the local floods that have just hit the area, and after being flooded out of our hoilday cottage we booked this hotel for two nights.

The first night we stayed in one of the new garden rooms which are top notch, very very clean and well appointed, although the TV didnt work.

The second night we where moved to a standard room and its was very dated, the bed was awful, the decor was dated the window had more condersation the the flood waters outside.

Not sure about the breakfast reviews as we found it to be very bland.

All in all if you can get a garden room of a good rate then you will enhoy your stay if not avoid.

We stayed on a three night special deal at the Fisherbeck and at the price we paid it represented good value Not being an expert on Lake district prices I would guess that at its top normal rates it may be on the dear side. However we were in one of the new Garden Rooms which overlook a rather small patch of grass and a path used by all of the residents as the entrance so garden was perhaps a wee bit over the top but the room was large new and absolutly spotless --the bathroom was well worth 5 stars= great shower= top quality towels fresh each day and plenty of luxury toiletries-- Breakfast is top notch freshly cooked local products well cooked and plated with care --served professionally by the team of Hungarian girls. You could I suspect do a lot worse in Ambleside than the Fisherbeck!!

I have never visited the lakes before and I had no idea about the area or the hotels. I therefore relied heavily on trip advisor for all my information and its there that I found this gem. It was one of those listings that just stood out and I'm so glad It did.
The Fisherbeck is a great place to stay and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to other travellers in fact we have already booked for next year!
We stayed in one of the new garden rooms which have been built and fitted out to a very high standard, these rooms have an outside seating area where you can watch the world go by. The staff were very attentive and there were lots of them especially at mealtimes. The breakfast menu was outstanding and the food was top quality. I cannot praise this hotel enough. If, like me, you have never been to the lakes before then you won't go far wrong if you start at The Fisherbeck at Ambleside.
