Been visiting for 10 years always have one tea/ meal here.Love sitting outside in the sun shopping holiday stories.
However this place was very disappointing tonight staff very lazy, waitress more interested in chatting up boy at bar young blonde girl.
Food was the worst we have ever had in Ambleside cheap but awful,no one asked how the food was hubby left full meal then we went to Ghylside chippy for an amazing fish chips peas, hubby wanted to bring the fish in to show you how a fish should look.I persuaded him not too.

Always ask a local where the good food is and you normally can not go wrong. Or experience at this establishment was on the money. Not the greatest food I have had but it was good and worth the money. My wife and I ate here two nights on the trot while on holiday and would definately come back

We did not stay in this hotel, we just ate in the pub. If you are looking for typical standard pub food at a fair price (such as Gammon & Chips, Steak Pie, Scampi etc) this pub will suffice. The decor is out of date as are allot of Lake District pubs and hotels to be honest, not been critical its just how I found things. Reading previous reviews I noted there were some very mixed reviews, however thought we would give it a try. We must have hit at the right time as we got parked right outside, and served some good standard pub food. I have no complaints, and would return on my experience of this pub.

Visited with friends who were making their first visit and they seemed to enjoy it. Service at the bar was brisk and friendly with staff enjoying banter with customers. Food service was slowish as there was only one person in the kitchen and the place was full but tables available.

Sadly the meal and a drink offer eg Pie, Steak and Fish nights had been withdrawn in this branch of the chain by all accounts but main meals were still cheap and of good quality and quantity for the money.

All in all a good deal and a warm comfortable place to eat and drink. The fact it was the busiest place in town each of the three nights we were there says it all.

On the last night a new member of staff was busy clearing tables and tidying up which is one of the White Lion's usual failings so good for her!

Best deal in Ambleside for eats and drinks providing you accept it for what it is and don't look for gourmet dining etc and are prepared to wait a while for meal service which seems to be the norm but on our last night was very prompt for a change. I would suggest being nice to the busy staff helps!

Stayed here for one night, the location is perfect being in the centre of Ambleside, and paying only £75 for two people B&B in the lakes we could not complain. Ok, so it's not the most modern hotel but its clean, tidy and well worth the money. The pub downstairs is a lovely, warm pub and issues with rude staff were definitely not an issue to us. Everyone was more than friendly and the breakfast the next day was very good, large portions and tasty! Can't go wrong for the price.

Good day out at the lakes then stopped off to eat. Place was quite busy and so we tried the menu.
We felt it was pricey for what was on offer, and the presentation needs to be upgraded. Firstly our chicken choices came as bland as written and the portions of child quantities which left members of our party as hungry going out as when went in.
Secondly though the place was clean and service good, Shame , the menu didn't match.

Nearby Windermere Station is just a 15-minute drive away. From Ambleside, it's easy to explore Windermere's 26-mile long coastline on foot, by car or by bike.
