“Loving the refurb”

Had a lovely stay at the newly revamped white lion. New decor is just what it needed with the bathrooms now being a credit rather than the disappointment they used to be. Had a nice meal in the evening as well. Will definitely be returning again soon :-)

We had two lunches here during our stay in the Lake District this year and both were excellent, particularly the chicken wings and fish & chips. One of the deciding factors for visiting here was it's dog friendliness not just outside but inside too. Being on holiday and having our dog with us made this a huge bonus for us. If you're not a dog lover you may be put off by them inside but any responsible dog owner would ensure they don't annoy anyone and it's worth visiting for great pub grub.

Newly renovated hotel. The rooms are nice, big, modern and comfortable (well, I can only speak for one of the rooms), over the pub. The pub itself is also newly renovated and is a very warm and welcoming place while also being a real pub. The breakfast was also great. Continental included in the price, but they have a breakfast menu to choose from if you want more/something else. Very friendly and helpful staff. Recommended.

Really nice pub with reasonable prices. Plenty of seating and places to sit outside which is especially nice in the summer months. Staff are very friendly.
Good variety of reasonably priced food. Cant go wrong with a visit here.

This pub is now a friendly pub. No more miserable bar staff. We had a great meal. The beer is good. The pub was really busy. Great location in the middle of Ambleside. It had a very Warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff made a real effort to make you comfortable.

A few years since we'd been to The White Lion. Don't remember it being part of a chain as it is now.

Food not bad, decent fish and chips, very good value. Drinks reasonably priced too.

Superb staff though. Very polite, friendly and welcoming.

Would visit again.

we did not stay here so can not comment on the rooms and service etc! HOWEVER!...
On our first night of staying in Ambleside we popped in here for something to eat and a pint of ale, seriously wished we hadn't bothered.
its pub food at its worst, the burger and chips I ordered came out, after a long journey getting to Ambleside I didn't want anything fancy!
Chips covered in grease, Hamburger served cold, looked like it had been laying still for a few hours as It was dried and curling at the edges. absolutely disgusting.
I made my way up to the till area to complain whilst my other half ate his, which was edible - just!
15 minutes later a new burger arrived... at which point I was so hungry the cardboard beer coasters were looking edible!
my advice - stay clear. plenty more lovely places in Ambleside.

Nearby Windermere Station is just a 15-minute drive away. From Ambleside, it's easy to explore Windermere's 26-mile long coastline on foot, by car or by bike. Discover the lake's great choice of water sports, or treat the family to a launch or steamer trip across its magnificent waters. After a long day outdoors, you'll love collapsing into one of the lodge's double, twin or family rooms, all with flatscreen TV and free WiFi.
