This little gem of a Restaurent is not to be missed, for either lunch, afternoon tea or Evening meal
The staff are curtious and nothing is too much trouble.

“Disappointed!”
Reviewed 26 May 2014 via mobile

We chose sheilas cottage following some good reviews on this site, to say we were disappointed is an understatement. My husband had the steak pudding n mash, totally under seasoned, the gravy tasted very similar to a well known instant brand. I ordered the liver and bacon. This was ok, though half was completely undercooked bordering on raw. The service was distinctly disinterested in us, not once were we asked if everything was ok. Such a shame as we had high expectations, the worst meal we have had in ambleside in fact the only bad meal we have had so far. Expensive for what was a very meal.

“Lunch on a recent Tuesday - May 2014”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

We had all (4 people) requested soup and a sandwich, expecting a medium size soup, however it was quite a lot larger than expected, plus the sandwich was in the form of a huge open faced bun with much too much topping and a pile of salad at the side. We had been here in previous years and don't remember having such a large amount piled up on the sandwich or indeed a 'sandwich' that looked like this. What happened to regular sandwiches - or is this what people want? We all agreed that it was very offputting to have this amount of food in front of us. An elderly lady at the next table had asked for a ham sandwich, probably expecting a more dainty type of 'tea-sandwich' and looked very overwhelmed when her food arrived. As we left I heard her say, 'we won't be coming here again'. And that's a shame as we remembered the food being very good and well presented last time we were there.

“excellent food”

A little gem of a place off the beaten track. Lovely staff and the food was absolutely delicious at a reasonable price. One minor fault, no draft beer only bottled. Would highly recommend this lovely restaurant and will definitely return when visiting the lakes in the future.

“A great find”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

After a long day on the fells and a soak in the bath we walked into Ambleside to find somewhere to eat and came across Sheila's cottage. After looking at the menu in the window we decided to go in and have something to eat and what great food it was. My wife had pasta which she loved and i had the tuna with new potatoes and veg which filled me up so we ended up sharing a rice pudding. A great place to end the day.
