“Can't wait to go again!”
Reviewed 4 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

This is an idyllic cottage just a short walk from the centre of Ambleside and within easy walking distance from Windermere itself.

The cottage has everything you need during your stay, everything is included from a hairdryer to a set of dominoes, and is lovely and cosy. Every room is immaculate and full of character.

We can highly recommend Dodds Italian restaurant in Ambleside, the food and service is top notch.

We would definitely stay again!

“A delightful experience”
Reviewed 21 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We had a wonderful few days at The Mounting Steps. We returned each day after exploring the area to a very cosy home that had a comforting and welcoming feel about it.
The Mounting Steps was immaculate. The facilities were very clean, everything we needed was catered for, the bed comfortable. We actually felt honoured to be sharing this beautiful home with the owners.

“Perfect Cottage, Perfect location”
Reviewed 28 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We couldn't have picked a better place. The cottage really is perfect and all the little added extras left by Maggie & Greg made it all the more special. The cottage has everything you could possibly need to feel right at home and the kitchen is extremely well equipped, should you wish to cook! Love the 'upside down' layout with the kitchen at the top making the most of the lovely views. As for the location, again perfect. Easily walkable into Ambleside in 5 mins and the most breathtaking walks right at the back of the cottage. If you're stuck for ideas on walks or bike rides, there is a whole heap of useful leaflets and maps to look through in the cottage, again something we made great use of.
We most definitely will be booking The Mounting Steps again for our holiday next year.

“A perfect lakeside retreat.”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This beautiful cottage has everything you would want for a relaxing stay in the heart of the Lake District. The owners really know how to look after their guests from thoughtful extra personal touches, a wealth of helpful resources and information within the cottage and exceptional customer service and communication. Ambleside town is a pleasant 10 minute stroll from the front door with plenty of eating places to choose from; 10 minutes in the opposite direction you are at the North edge of Lake Windermere, where you can pick up a cruise around the lake from the pier. Beautiful. A great location to explore all the main attractions of this outstanding area. Highly recommended.

“Great property, great contact from owner”
Reviewed 26 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We wondered about the location of this property. We needn't have worried. It's a very pleasant, leafy stroll into the town, which means you have the best of both worlds - all the amenities of Ambleside, but a relaxing sense of countryside around the cottage. The shared garden leading down to the river across the road would be perfect for breakfast at the picnic table in warm weather. Our week being a bit chilly, we just managed coffee on the well-positioned seat...) You'll not need to use your car once you've parked it (parking excellent). Lots of excellent walks directly from the property - and Maggie will provide v helpful advice. Even Grasmere can be reached by foot, of you make a day of it, via the 'coffin walk' (coffee stop at Rydal Hall for the Guinness chocolate cake highly recommended!) Cottage is as described by others - great. And TV and wi-fi both functioned immaculately. We've done a lot of holiday rentals and contact this time with the owner was among the best we have had. (Maggie even arranged to have a cardigan I had left behind posted home... Above and beyond the call of duty.!) Thanks.

“Good base for exploring the Lake District”
Reviewed 20 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

A lovely little property equipped with all you could need. Parking is outside and there is a lovely private riverside garden across the road where we watched a kingfisher fishing. Being spread over 3 floors it would not be ideal if you have mobility issues but if you have come to climb mountains it is not a problem
