My husband and I stayed one night at Broughton Craggs hotel using a Groupon Voucher. We were very happy with our stay and considered it very good value. It is true that there are some minor niggles about the hotel (mentioned by other reviewers) but overall we had a very relaxed stay and I had an excellent nights sleep which is testament to the comfort of the bed.
The dinner was good home cooking at a reasonable price. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak pie and the hand cut chips. My husband loved the apple crumble and custard. Good hearty meals which are great if you have had a day walking in the hills. The breakfast was excellent with fruit, yoghurts, cereals followed by a full English breakfast. Hot plates holding quality sausage, bacon, black pudding, tomato, beans, egg and fried bread! The hotel owners need to invest in new filters/extracters for the kitchen as the smell of frying oil tended to waft out through the dining room. Fortunately the food tasted so much better than the smells suggested.
We liked the large airy lounges with the comfortable sofas where we could relax with a drink from the bar and read the paper. In the summer it would be nice to sit out on the terrace and watch the peacocks which walk around the gardens. I can recommend this hotel, certainly not all shiny and new but it does have character and atmosphere and we'd return for another visit.

Spent a lovely weekend with friends here in picturesque settings. Very comfortable rooms & excellent food. Then it was nice to relax on spacious leather settees with a drink in front of a roaring log fire. Will definitely return for another visit.

I would have to agree with previous comments. Cramped room, threadbare carpets, poor food and even poorer wine list. Bought 2 nights via a discount voucher, glad we didn't pay full price , even with the discount it wasn't worth the money.
