I live locally and have sometimes booked the Hundith Hill Hotel as a training venue and to treat volunteers at Christmas time. We recently held our joint 50th and 18th here and had a great time. The buffet was plentiful and on time and the staff were very good at accommodating our needs as we planned the party and as we had extra last minute requirements for the guests.

The only negative comment would be that one of the dining room staff was surly when I asked for extra places to be set at breakfast so that we could join our guests to eat. I said that we would pay for the breakfasts and we did so, however, given the amount of money that we had brought to the hotel for the weekend, it would have been a goodwill gesture to have been less unpleasant about this. Staff attitudes are very important in helping to make memorable stays, I hope it was just an off day for her.

Came here for a wedding, staying on an extra couple of nights. Not a bad place overall but I can't be as enthusiastic as some other contributors. Accommodation spacious, spotless and comfortable although somewhat soulless (we stayed in a newly built wing) Didn't have any meals here, so can't judge the quality. Great views out to fells. Had limited contact with staff but when we did they were unfailingly pleasant.
So far, so good. But ,as a resident I felt I was incidental to the main business. My problem is that the place seems set up to cater for weddings and other events, while the catering (booking essential for all) appears to pull in lots of non-residents. Fair enough-they've a business to run in a rural area. But net result was that it all seemed pretty hectic. All the seating in the small lounge was occupied- doesn't appear to be a dedicated residents' lounge. There was another wedding the night after the one we'd attended. People wandering around till late, could hear band playing while in bedroom, though not overwhelming. Fine, and if it had been seriously bad I'd have complained. But it wasn't very relaxing. It's not a place I'd revisit if I had no "business" here.

This is a great place to stay. The accommodation was very comfortable. It was clear that the hotel is run to the highest standards and provides a warm and friendly atmosphere. Hospitality and food were both first class. The hotel has a wonderful setting with beautiful views toward the Lakeland fells. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

We are regulars at the Hundith Hill- we stay at least 2-3 times a year. We have always had a wonderful time. Food and staff great !
We take our small dogs and stay in the outside converted stables - the dogs are very happy as are we. Facilities are good -very clean room / an excellent shower / well decorated .
Highly recommend a stay here -many places near to visit and fantastic views from the hotel. We will certainly be back once again in the next few weeks.an hardly wait.

Stayed here recently for a friends wedding. The views were amazing and the staff friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was a tad on the slow side, but was of a good quality.

The room I stayed in (Room 11) was comfy and well furnished.

I have visited the Lake District at least once a year since the 1960’s and have camped in tents, stayed in caravans and a whole range of hotels. From now on I will be only staying in one place – The Hundith Hill Hotel …

I have driven past the entrance at least 100 times and never even called in for a coffee then a month or so ago I decided to travel over to the Cockermouth area for a couple of nights. I have stayed in The Trout, The Allerdale and The Manor House and enjoyed each of them but The Hundith Hill is the Barcelona of the Hotel World.

My room was fantastic, very well equipped, clean with loads of space and with unbelievable views of The Lorton Valley. The meals were exceptional – man sized portions of beautifully prepared local produce, cooked to perfection – no wonder there were so many locals eating there on the Saturday evening.

Last but by no means least, the staff were friendly and professional and couldn't be more helpful.

All in all, probably the best weekend away I have experienced in many years. I have already booked another visit next month.

Room Tip: The newly converted barn conversation rooms are simply unbelievable ...

Stopped here for 2 nights and attended a wedding, Excellent locations and the views are amazing.
We stopped in room 18 in the "court yard" very nice room lots of space. This room even had a door out the back to a quiet area with a seat built in to the wall were you could just sit and look and an relax on.

The wedding was excellent and the staff very friendly, ample food and the buffet was excellent.

The 2 gentlemen running the bar were excellent and had a laugh with everybody.

Breakfast was good, slow but the food is excellent.

Could have been better if they had given a few more towels for the room.

Would go back but would want to stop in the "honeymoon suite" the groom (our friend) showed us around and it was great.
