We just needed somewhere to have something to eat and stopped here. The initial welcome was warm, but it went downhill from there on in. The service was very slow and disorganised. The food poor and when we came to pay the bill, we were astounded by the extortionate cost. We came out of the Old Posting House feeling less than satisfied with the whole experience, and vowed that we would never go back!

It was lovely interior you can tell The posting house dates back some years, loved the collection of teapots just take care not to lean back too far into the teapots as I nearly did. We had Sunday lunch & it was just like being at home one that your mother would make, we also had puddings but I wish I hadn't as I was so full, I have vowed to go back to the Posting house & have another meal here on a different day just to test what it will be like

We love this pub! From the moment we entered we knew it was out type of a pub. The decor is kitsch and fascinating, with the many teapots, plates and plaid table cloths and the food is absolutely fantastic. Good and hearty, the Chef knows what he's doing and his chicken and leek pie was to die for. The Landlord is friendly and welcoming and we felt like we'd known him for years. On the back road from Egremont to Cockermouth, it's well worth the drive. The pub was having it's outside repainted on our last visit and will no doubt look lovely covered in flowers. Toilets were clean and modern and it looks like the rooms for rent upstairs would be of the same standard. Will definitely being going again. Highly recommend.

A bit like stepping back into the 1980's or earlier with the decor, but the multitudes of tea pots and the 'top ten of everything book 1994' kept our two young boys amused in the not so long way for food.

Main course was ok, lots of it, hot and good taste. Pudding was similarly competent for the other three (sticky toffee pudding) but my 'blueberry trifle' was a big disappointment (issues were tough chewy blueberrys lacking any taste (tinned?) and a the topping was 'squirty cream' with a squirt of red sauce, not good). Felt slightly overcharged when it came to payment after that trifle to finish.

As others have mentioned a lack of real ale on the bar (or much on tap really), the Jennings was ok.

Was expecting a whole lot more given the reviews i'd seen on here, this was a our second choice after the Kirkstile Inn had needed to cancel our booking due to a power cut (but had called us to let us know).

I appreciate February is not the best month to judge but we called in for a drink only, with a view to eating later perhaps. More off a food place than drinking venue, but only one ale on tap ! Decor very chintzy.
