“Beautiful cottage in an lovely location”

Steve greeted us and made us feel very welcome , gave us an overview of the area and places to go for meals etc. Welcome pack was a nice touch and the scones and biscuits were amazing, the bottle of wine was most appreciated!

The location, although quite out of the way was in easy reach of Cockermouth and the beach.

The cottage was just right for 2 people, perfectly equipped kitchen and amenities and had a real homely feel to it

The only point I would like to make would be the stairs- anyone who is unsteady on their feet/ has mobility issues would find the stairs hard to climb as they are quite steep.

We would definitely stay again and hope to do so in the not too distance future

Dear Sharon & Jeff
Very many thanks for your positive review and we are naturally delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Stable Cottage. We are glad that we got to meet you before leaving to do a grandparently duties in Birmingham! Your point with regard to the stairs is perfectly valid although we do point this out in our write up on Holiday Lettings. All I can say is that I have pretty bad arthritis in my knees (one replacement knee fitted!) and I can get up and down the stairs well enough but for children or anyone with more severe mobility difficulties they could be a problem. We do hope that we will see again sometime here - you will be most welcome. Best regards
Steve & Elaine Smith.

Stable cottage is a beautiful place to take a truly relaxing break. Stephen was superbly helpful with the booking and always there to help. Gillian also gave us a great welcome on arrival.
The cottage is charming and very well presented and the welcome basket with home made treats, really is a treat!
We would stay at stable cottage again in an instant!

“"A real gem"”
Reviewed 29 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Firstly, please disregard the recent negative comments left previously by one recent guest. Comments like these are not helpful to the traveller or constructive to the owner. We stay in many cottages throughout the year in various locations, and Stable Cottage is one of the best. It is charming, quaint, full of character and a pleasure to stay there. The owners are welcoming, helpful and provide a quality product. The welcome pack and greeting card we received on arrival, was a lovely touch and really personalised our visit. The region is unspoilt with all the amenities you need close by. Cockermouth is 6 miles away and is beautiful (with some great pubs). I hope to return soon and will definitely recommend to my friends and family. Thanks again...........

Dear Ged & Nerys
We are sorry that we only saw you briefly before we ourselves went away. We are very grateful to you for your thoughtful and eloquent review. It is always a great pleasure to us when people enjoy their stay and we do try to go the extra mile to make sure that guests have a comfortable and fulfilling experience. It is very much a country place here with all the joys (and sometimes frustrations) that that brings. For some city dwellers this may be just too much but we find that the overwhelming majority of folk that come here relish the beauty and peace and quiet of the area. We know that you were looking forward to jettisoning the laptop and the mobile! Glad it lived up to your expectations and hope to see you again sometime at Stable Cottage. With best regards Steve & Elaine

“Well worth a trip.”
Reviewed 22 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

One of the most welcoming arrivals we have experienced. Elaine and steve were very accommodating . Elaine had prepared a welcome hamper consisting of her homemade cakes and other lovely surprises. The cottage consisted of every amenities we could need, with a nice homely country feel, geographically very well located central to lots of places, personal car advantageous but if no personal transport the opportunity of hiring Steve's sports car is available . Would recommend to family and friends we will definitely be going back soon.

“Superb, relaxing stay, in beautiful quaint cottage.”
Reviewed 15 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We arrived around 7.30-8pm on a Friday evening, not the most convenient time for hosts to be welcoming guests, but Stephen and Elaine made it seem a pleasure in showing us round, getting us settled as well as leaving us, not just the basics, but homemade treats to make our arrival even more welcoming :)
I had a few questions as to locations of places as we were out early the next morning, Stephen very kindly provided an explanation of the area and drew us a detailed map. Also Elaine and Stephen are happy to help out with any needs you have (We needed super glue and a taxi at 8pm saturday evening!), and also accommodated our, at times, nosey, hyperactive dog!
The cottage itself is spotless, with front and rear gardens both lovely to relax in. It is situated In an unspoilt area of the Lakes but what seemed like a short drive from anywhere, of which we wished we had more time to take and do some more exploring, including it being a stones throw from the quiet beach town of Allonby.
We will most certainly be going back again soon!
Thank you!
x

“A wonderful magic little cottage - a pleasure to return to each evening.”
Reviewed 7 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We spent 6 nights at Stable Cottage. From the offset we were made to feel very welcome by Elaine and Stephen. Then when we entered the cottage we could feel the lovely atmosphere, the cottage is very tastefully furnished and equipped with everything anyone would need. If that was not enough we found lovely homemade treats in the kitchen - our evening taken care of even down to the wine! The cottage is in a great location, very quiet and peaceful, and not too much of a drive away from the many beauty spots the Lakes have to offer. We visited, Buttermere, Grasmere, Ambleside, Loweswater, Keswick, Rydal sometimes stopping along the way for a short country walk. Each night we drove down to the beach and witnessed some wonderful sunsets. There are a couple of pubs approximately 20 minutes walk away down the country lanes. We walked to the Bistro one evening and enjoyed really good meal with excellent service. The thing we liked the least was having to return home! But having said that we returned home with "our batteries fully re-charged" and ready to face the world. Thank you again to Elaine and Stephen - we hope to return in the not too distant future. x
