The programme Four in a Bed seems to have led people to believe they should revel in finding fault and declare their findings with a flag waving fanfare. Ousebridge is run by a lovely family, it is comfortable and the breakfasts are excellent. It is not filthy, it is not badly run. It is a guest house - not a whistles and flutes hotel. Go there and enjoy yourself and don't be a ridiculous furniture shifting grouches. If you find something wrong, tell your hosts, if it is not sorted to your satisfaction, tell Trip Advisor.

Stayed here a number of times over the past few years. Every time has been great. Rooms are always well presented, breakfast fantastic and the owners are really great people. If you want a local pub - there is the Pheasant just a short walk away. There is also the nearby Gin Distillery. Again walkable - or staggerable (is that a word?).
In a nutshell - Great place.

Where to start with this review? Firstly the staff were pleasant and welcoming and based on other reviews we were expecting good things. The location was great and although not cheap (over £100) the room was a good size.
Unfortunately upon a little closer inspection things were not as great as they seemed. I will back up this review with photographic evidence but it's fair to say it ended up being poor value and not worth the money. Things we found wrong were -
1. Bedside cabinet covered in dust at the rear
2. Bubbled and water damaged wall paper in the bathroom
3. A dirty sock and uneaten olive under my son's bed
4. A plastic bottle top underneath the bedside cabinet
5. Mould and damp around the window frames
6. Bathroom shelf coming off the wall
7. Black mould in the bathroom
8. The smallest shower head I have ever found in a hotel room
9. Black and mouldy seal along the bottom of the bath
10. A split and broken bath panel
11. A ripped and torn lamp shade
12. Dust covered top of the wardrobe with broken coat hanger pieces

Added to this there were several "bunches" of fake flowers in the room - really? This is 2017 not 1987, is it too much to expect a small posey of real flowers in a room? And to cap it all breakfast was only served between 8.30 and 9.15! I don't think I've ever stayed in a place with a 45 minute window for serving breakfast.

It seems that Ouse Bridge really struggled to get the very basics right from the cleaning to the decor. There is no excuse for poor cleaning, mould and ripped lamp shades. As for dirty socks and uneaten olives under the bed.......

It's safe to say that we won't be returning to here and next time we come to the Lake District we will be staying somewhere that can get these basics right. All in all a very poor experience and bad value for money.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

In a great location, the owner is really nice and helpful. The breakfast was top quality, all local produce and thick cut bacon. Ideal to walk to the distillery as we are founders of the distillery and visit there quite often. It is a bit e 30 min walk to the distillery. Rooms are clean and homely, this is guest house and not a hotel, some people leave bad reviews of this place, but a guest house and a hotel are no the same. So you should know what the expectations are, as guest house go this is one of the best.

We are going again in May 2017 :-)

Stayed for one night at the reduced rate of £50, yes they think that's cheap. Booking through Booking.com.
You can't get in the place before 1600 hrs, tired after a long drive. TV/Wi-Fi is prehistoric, I only managed 2 channels and no Wi-Fi whatsoever.
Most often the rooms don't have ensuite, only if you're lucky. The manageress gave me the impression that being a one night guest meant I should be ignored and came across as very bombastic and arrogant as she clambered over long term customers, sick.
The bed was OK, room relaxed and reasonable, but the breakfast (the heart of all critics) was awful. It was pre prepared the day before and lacked any real chef attention.
Overall, the stay was a miserable experience, although great views, this was not enhanced by the personal attention to detail I expect as a customer.
The pricing system is far too high for such a poor run hotel, and could benefit from a course in "how to win friends & influence customers"

Firstly, my surprise to hear of Mr Kevin O'Neil's issues was when we received this tripadvisor review - nothing at all was said to us at check-out or during his stay to address any his "said issues".

I did e-mail the guest on his day of arrival asking for his estimated time of arrival and at this stage he did not request an early check-in, which we would gladly have have accommodated guests, if we are informed in advance. Our check-in and check-out times appear on our website, on other third party booking sites and also are sent with booking confirmations.
TV and Wi-fi are both working fin and the Wi-fi reception is very good. we have fibre
broadband and all our business and leisure guests comment on what great speed - possibly this guest was using the incorrect passwords, this could easily have been resolved had he spoken with some of the staff during his stay.

The original room booked by the guest, was one of our cheapest rooms [we have 2 rooms that each hae their own private bathrooms whilst our other 9 rooms are all en-suite rooms] If we are not very busy, we do try and offer free upgrades if en-suites are free. A lovely 1st floor en-suite double room at single occupany was provided or this guest at no extra price, a very good value at £50.00 including full cooked English Breakfast.
We pride ourselves on our breakfasts and our Breakfast Award. All our food at Ouse Bridge House is prepared fresh each day and we take pride an pleasure in serving fresh local produce.
