We were recommended this B&B by some friends who had stayed when the place was in the hands of the previous owners. Our hosts, Jane and Zen, were incredibly helpful with suggestions of walks and places to eat (there's a fabulous pub, the Kirkstile Inn, not far away, with a microbrewery, homemade pies and a roaring log fire - a pretty perfect pub within reach of a pretty perfect B&B).

Jane and Zen created a relaxing, laid-back atmosphere that we've sometimes found absent in B&Bs. Our room, with four-poster bed, was very tastefully decorated, with views over the fells. Breakfasts were fantastic - the homemade compotes were a lovely extra touch.

We're so glad we drove a few extra miles to get to this corner of the lakes - it's a stunning area and feels wonderfully remote, but is still pretty well connected for getting back to the motorway.

This was one of the lovliest places we've ever stayed, and now we've caught the Lake District bug, we'll definitely be going back.

We stayed at The Old Homestead August Bank Holiday 08, and all of us really enjoyed our stay, we were there Friday and Saturday. Five of us stayed here and all of us were more than blown away with the beautiful rooms, views, hospitality, lovely breakfasts and location. Only a few miles from Cockermouth but far away to enjoy tranquil views.

I can't recommend this hotel enough.

Thank you

Heather & David Taylor

Spent five nights at The Old Homestead. A highly recommended B&B option for exploring the Lakes. Jayne and Zen made us feel very welcome and were a mine of local knowledge from the best pubs to great walks to suit us. Would recommend to anyone wanting B&B in a very beautiful location. Not a net curtain in sight!

We arrived to find different owners (Zen and Jayne) from our previous visits but the welcome was extremely warm and helpful and we received great hospitality throughout our four day stay. The location is quite magnificent and all the facilities excellent. My wife is disabled and the layout in the Byre rooms, even floors plus a "wet" bathroom make it a great base for us or anyone wheelchair bound for visits to the Lakes. Breakfast (generous proportions of mainly local produce) is in a communal room using refectory tables so it was not long before we were sharing experiences with other guests. There is plenty of parking, a beautiful area to sit out in the morning sun and animals a plenty to watch! We will certainly return.

We had great weekend based at The Old Homestead. The location is beautiful, the accomodation excellent and the hosts are welcoming and very helpful with local information and walks. The converted barn is charming with spacious and comfortable public rooms and very comfortable and well equipped bedrooms. We stayed in the Masters room - with its four poster bed, sitting area with leather settee and very well appointed en-suite bathrrom. Each day was started with a delicious cooked Cumbrian breakfast and the opportunity to chat with other guests in a friendly and hospitable atmosphere. We will be going back.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Old Homestead. Zen and Jane who recently took over the B&B from its previous owners were excellent hosts - room was fantastic (modern with a traditional twist) and the breakfast was also superb - big portions! Also accomodated our very muddy bikes each evening in the barn. Will definitely return.
