“Fabulous location, fully accessible, eco-friendly home from home with a friendly welcome”

Great location for Northern Lake District. Beautiful, rural location but close enough to "civilisation" - Cockermouth 15 minutes drive away. Quiet location with lots of wildlife and birdlife.
House itself - we stayed in Buttermere - specially adapted for wheelchair users like myself. Great single level accommodation - spacious with lots of turning space. Double bed in master bed has very supportive mattress and lots of space to transfer. Bathroom has low level sink, hand rails for the toilet and large level access shower. Kitchen has some work surfaces at level of wheelchair user. Fabulous. Immediate grounds around the house were fine but the pond etc on the estate was not so easy due to steep cambers and grassy paths - lots of assistance required.
House is set up with eco-friendliness in mind - came away with lots of ideas about how to implement some of the ideas at home.
Host Marna lives on site and is very, very helpful, friendly and caring. Lots of extra gifts and goodies - thanks Marna!

“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 12 July 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We stayed here with our three dogs over Easter for a week and we loved it there. The accommodation was amazing. I love the eco friendly side as we try to follow this lifestyle in our home. It was homely and had a lovely log burning fire. There is also a lovely walk on the property up to the lake, which my dogs took themselves to everyday. One of the biggest draw for me to this property was that it was dog friendly. As this was the first time I had taken the dogs away I was a bit nervous but marna the owner put my mind at rest and gave me details of lots of walks and places to visit.
Southwaite green is central to lots of places, from here we travelled to lake Windermere, buttermere, Glasgow and Cockermouth.
If your planning a holiday to the lakes with your dogs or even without them, I would highly recommend here.

“Lovely, comfortable and well-situated accommodation”
Reviewed 1 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Buttermere at Southwaite Green is a lovely, modern, cosy and comfortable bungalow, ideal for a disabled person. My mother enjoyed the easy access shower and being able to sit outside in the garden, I enjoyed sitting by the pond birdwatching and saw a deer and a hare up there. All facilities we might need were provided and the plum bread and chocolate were delicious! Providing a local paper is a nice touch. Its a lovely location, very well situated for the Lakes and the coast and a nice easy drive into Cockermouth for shopping or eating out. The only gripe if I have one is having to get out of the car to open the gate, drive through, then get out again to close it!

“Wonderful location with interesting eco developments”
Reviewed 29 January 2015 for a stay in January 2015

This was our second stay. We love the setting with good strolls round to the pond even in a wet January. The cottage is toasty warm and has a wood burner with lots of logs etc. provided so perfect for winter evenings. We enjoyed the galleries and restaurant in Cockermouth and the easy access to walks to Crummock water and Buttermere.

This is a very warm, well equipped property. Very spacious and comfortable with good sized beds and a lovely kitchen. The owners had thought of everything, even leaving us a Christmas tree.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 26 September 2014 for a stay in May 2014

My husband and I stayed here with my mother who is in a wheelchair. The facilities were very good for her, all on one level and the bathroom was well fitted for accessibility needs. The accomodation is first class with plenty of crockery and cutlery to avoid washing up (dishwasher) after every meal - geat idea!. Worked out how to use the ECO kettle after a couple of tries :-) When we needed a firmer chair for my mother to sit on in the lounge area, Marna found one for us and it was no problem.
The grounds have plenty of space to wander for a quiet 1/2 hour every so often and it was only a pity that the swimming pond wasn't really ready for the summer as it looked so inviting.
The treats on arrival were wlecome and we had a lovely restful holiday in super surroundings.

“Beautiful visit to the Lake District, and Great Stay at Southwaite Green!”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 for a stay in October 2013

My wife and I visited Southwaite Green - Buttermere Cottage on our last visit to the Lake District. It is beautifully located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, and located close to Cockermouth as well, so if you need any shopping it's not too far to travel. We brought our two Golden Retriever pups, and were met upon arrival by Marna, who was wonderful, and stopped in with us to loan us walking guides and to tell us about the local area. Very quiet and out of the way, yet close enough to town if you require anything. We used the cottage as a base, and explored during the day - returning in the evening for a bit of supper and some knitting next to the fire with two tired pups! It was a great place to stay for our visit to the Lake District, and we would highly recommend Southwaite Green to anyone wanting to visit, and have a very enjoyable time. Oh, and Southwaite Green is, in fact, 'green', with eco-friendly soaps, etc., recycling and bin collection. Overall, very nice long weekend away in the Lake District! Thanks Marna, and hope to see you again!
