“Perfect! And much better than your average B&B!”
Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed at the Mountain View for 3 nights over New years weekend. The B&B was so much better than other B&Bs I'd stayed in as you've got complete use of what would be a self-contained cottage (but you get breakfast thrown in too!). The cottage was really lovely, had everything we could have wanted and the view over the Old Man of Coniston was amazing.

Melanie was really friendly and was very flexible in when to bring breakfast (especially after New Years Eve!). Was a really good breakfast too!

Definitely the best B&B I've stayed in. Would recommend anyone thinking of staying in Coniston to definitely stay at Mountain View.

This was built to be a holiday cottage and caught out by planning changes, so it is now a B&B with a nicely presented bedroom, self-contained bathroom, living room & kitchen/dining room. This was all ours until a good cooked breakfast appeared on the dot at 8:30 in the morning as ordered.

We so loved having our own private space in which we could really relax that we decided to pass up on eating out, raid the Co-op five minutes down the street, and spend the evening "at home" watching Monty Python on the DVD (provided). We splashed out on what we bought, but obviously still saved significantly on what we would have spent.

We brought our 12 year old son; there was plenty of room for him to camp on the floor in the bedroom and, as we didnt use the sofa bed downstairs, Melanie gave us a reduction off the per person rate.

We can't fault the accomodation, service or price, but the weather was definitely not up to scratch, and the Old Man had to be left unclimbed. So we will be back.

We booked the Mountain View for a Monday to Friday stay during our anniversary week in August. The booking was easy and we paid a small deposit. Melanie was brilliant from start to finish as we were able to email her to find out about local restaurants and amenities prior to our arrival.
We parked directly outside with access being down the side. You may struggle if you have an estate car or people carrier sized vehicle, but we had no issues. The 1st thing we said on entering was that the photos do not do it justice! The rooms are all large, bright and spacious, especially the bathroom with the whirlpool bath which is brilliant! The views over the mountains at the rear are superb, and Coniston is literally only a two minute walk down the road. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and kept that way throughout.
The living room was really comfortable with a great flat screen TV and DVD for use if wanted, and an electric fire that instantly kicked out heat. The kitchen/dining area was well stocked with everything you could need to self cater, from microwave to washing machine and dishwasher. It is a brilliant find for us and one that the bureaucratic red tape has stopped from being used as a Holiday Let.
It was funny being sat at the dining table every morning waiting for Melanie to walk in through the back door with the cooked breakfast from next door! There was plenty of toast, cereal and fresh orange etc and each day on our return the building was once again spotlessly clean with fresh towels every day as well as more milk and orange.
The bedroom was large with plenty of storage and the bed was sooooo comfortable.
There are several good pubs and restaurants in Coniston. We ate at Harry's which serves Pizza and Pasta and even had a Take Away from here one evening which was great. The Sun Hotel serves good food in a grest location. The only down side was the price of stuff. Pint and a half of Lager varied between £5 and £6 and the local shops are a bit pricey but this is the compromise for keeping village life away from the big corporations!
Ambleside is only a ten minute drive down the road, so one evening we drove and ate at the Log House . Brilliant food again at a great location and reasonably priced. £66 for a two course meal for two with a bottle of wine, but the food was superb.
We really cannot give Melanie and the Mountain View enough praise. We stay at the Lakes a couple of times every year, and its the first time we would say we will definitely be going back here as it offers the best of both worlds. B & B and self catering holiday let!!

Just like the other reviews superb b&b that could be self catering if you want it... Melanie is an attentive host who didn't mind that we took over her garden for sun-bathing on the 20+ degree weather... Would defo stay again and highly recommend!

I booked here after a fair bit of research in looking for a reasonably priced chintz-free room for 2 nights. Guided by the one previous review on this site - I felt I owed it to Mountain View to add to its praise! Located 1 minute away from the pubs and shops of Coniston, with stunning views, Mountain View offers a haven where you are encouraged to make yourself at home throughout your stay. Fantastic having your own kitchen and lounge, we were made to feel very welcome by Melanie, who delivered delicious cooked breakfasts at a time to suit us. Great value for money and just what you need after a long and rambling mountain hike.

An absolutely smashing B&B - More like a holiday cottage for 2 with its own lounge, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with superb views of Coniston Old Man. Melanie the owner is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for her.Breakfast is continental style, but Melanie will do a cooked breakfast if asked.
The furnishings are lovely and the property is only 2 mins walk from the Black Bull - What more could you ask for £35 per person?
