“It's good”
Reviewed 28 June 2011

Surprised by some of the reviews listed as the food was very good. We have been staying around Coniston all week and have visited 3 times as the food, beers, wine and views are very good. Staff could smile more though.

“Great view . . . not so great food.”
Reviewed 24 May 2011

Visited The Sun Inn, while staying in Bowness nearby. Sat in the conservatory which provided us with amazing views over Coniston (really is a beautiful location!). However the food was pretty abysmal. Two of our party (of four), had the local pie, which was completely inedible, (infect it could have been used a doorstop, it was so overcooked!). I myself had a baguette, which was okay, served with packet chips, not anything special.

“Overpriced and badly prepared mush”
Reviewed 25 April 2011

This restuarant slams out reheated food of very poor quality ingredients and very high prices in an average 3 mins between ordering and it arriving at your table.

The slow cooked 1/2 duck must have only taken 3 min to reheat in the microwave and It was so tough i couldnt get any meat off it. The simplest dish was a dry reheated lincolnshire sausage with marble sized gristle inside which i had to spit out as it was so disgusting.

Trust me you will be dissapointed!!!!!!!!

Note: They have themselves to blame as they take orders in volume and try and turn it around at speed so everything is microwaved and dried out to get it turned around in time. Seriously its not that hard to serve good food and these people have no idea about basic quality.

“Absolutely awful!”
Reviewed 1 January 2011

Having walked down from the old man we called in for a drink. Shocking shocking shocking service! The staff are SO rude surly uninterested just terrible! I wouldn't employ or pay them! Great setting. Until they take customer service seriously I'll never cross the threshold again! Macdonalds can teach you few things.

“Cold box room”
Reviewed 30 November 2010

Don't stop here. We booked a twin bedded room here for a weekend break and we got a cold box room with 2 single beds in an L. shape. (this for £110 a night) On asking for a refund of my deposit they refused. We were given room 9 but on their Web-Site they state that they have 8 rooms. After a number of phone calls the staff were rude and unhelpful. They also told me that the room was not up to standard but still would not give me my money. So we went down the road to the BLACK BULL this Hotel was cheaper and excellent. We were also told the Sun Hotel has a nickname now FAWLTY TOWERS.
