Description: The Swallows and Amazons Tearoom & Farm Shop/Restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. We serve light as well as hearty keep warm meals, homemade cakes, luxury ice cream and hot & cold drinks. We also have a great selection of wine and local Lake District ale for you to enjoy with your meal. The view from the tearoom and beer garden across the lake are sensational, it is no surprise that Bank Ground Farm inspired Arthur Ransome to write Swallows and Amazons during one of his stays. Easily accessible to both cyclists and mountain bikers. Many of Grizedale's routes run close by, so come and boost your energy levels and have a light lunch and cake! Bank Ground is on the edge of the lake, opposite the village of Coniston, so you can even arrive by boat! With a footpath on our doorstep, we are also accessible to walkers too, a mere 25 minute walk from the centre of Coniston! The restaurant is open in the evenings, however it is essential to book in advance as we are not open every evening. Occasionally we host events so please check our website to make sure we are open and avoid disappointment.

We took the coniston ferry across to brantwood with the intention of walking back round the lake. However we only got a 1/3 of the way, as we come across this cracking Tearoom. We sat outside in glorious sunshine eating absolutely lovely cakes and drinking tea whilst the kids ran around on the lawn. To make it perfect the farmer had some orphan lambs that my daughter loved.
Anyway I don't understand why everyone goes to coniston or brantwood as this place is fab. They also serve lunches which we didn't try but looked nice too.
So after about an hour or so we turned back back and go the ferry back to coniston. Great day one to remember.

Best food I have ever eaten. The banoffee pie and the egg sandwiches were literally good enough to call my family back home about.

I felt I was about to bump into Nancy, Peggy, John, Susan, T**ty ( it seems I can't write her name according to trip advisors obscenity rules!) and Roger. The location is a delight, the staff extremely friendly and the food delicious. Even though it is a long way from Australia I will be back! Thank you.

Agreeing with other reviews this a beautiful place overlooking Coniston Lake. We first came across it on a walk, we were heading towards Jumping Jenny's at Brantwood. This is also very good with great food but it can be a little busy where as here is a little bit further away from the launch jetty, so tends to be quieter. We can highly recommend the lentil and chorizo stew and the smoked salmon sandwiches with a nicely dressed generous side salad. On a good day it's lovely to sit in the garden which has just fabulous views and on wetter or cooler day then it's equally lovely sitting inside by a warn fire in a beautifully decorated tea room. We have now visited here on numerous occasions whilst on our yearly trip into this stunning area.
