We have just stayed here on a two night break! The staff were not friendly in the slightest and barely smiled at us, not very welcoming at all! considering we stayed for two nights not one of the staff spoke to us once. The rooms were dated and smelt musty the only good thing in the room was the bath which was of a decent size! We didn't even give the evening meals a try as we were put off by the unfriendly approach from the minute of our arrival! The breakfast was quiet nice but again definitely not service with a smile. It was very noisy of an evening but to be honest it's what we expected as it was a pub! On our departure from the place not once did we get asked did we enjoy our stay or was everything ok, instead we just got presented with a bill which I paid through gritted teeth, the member of staff then just turned their back not even saying goodbye or have a nice trip once the bill had been paid! Very rude indeed! We received more of a friendly welcome from other pubs in the area within five minutes of being there than we did of our whole two night stay in the sun. Probably one of the worst places I've stayed in the past six years. This place does have potential but is let down by the dated decor, musty smells, and unfriendly approach which made our stay very un-personal!! Definitely would not recommend to any of my friends and would not stay here again! The toilets in the pub were at one point overflowing out onto the floor which made the place feel very dirty indeed! I really do not understand how this place has 4 stars!!!!!

This is a great Lakeland PUB that does good food and a friendly welcome from the owners and locals.
What more do you want?
People that come on here and moan about this lovely PUB should stay in London!!!!

Very disappointing. Staff apathetic. Room very poor and noisy. Food bearable if prepared to wait, very poor service. Booked for two nights but just had to leave after one. Whole place needs a good sort out. The only good comment I can give is it's position.

Stopped at this pub after a walk over Coniston Old Man on a warm Wednesday after the recent bank holiday weekend. Took ages to be served. The barman ignored me and, even after being told to serve me by the owner, was rude and surly.
Went to the Bull where we got a warm welcome and they were serving food too. Will NOT go to the Sun again.

I am staying in The Sun Inn as we speak. We were given a warm welcome when we walked in to enquire about a family room and told that there was one left and it would be made up for us.The staff are very friendly down to earth people who were chatty and not stuck up like you can often find in the Lake District. We were given room number two and it was immaculate. The room is very spacious and furniture is lovely.Flat screen tv mounted on the wall and plenty if tea and coffee. My wife and one of my sons ordered burgers and they were slightly red in the middle(but not undercooked as a lot of people eat them like this)the staff cooked two more burgers, provided free chips and did not charge us for the burgers. What more could you want from a Pub.As the landlady states above there is no restaraunt here just a pub.As for the rooms being cold?It has the original sash windows so what do you expect! We paid £130 for a family room in high season.£14 cheaper than the best western in Glenridding the previous night which wasn't as nice.Great selection of ales and just what a pub in the lakes should be.Dogs are very welcome too which is nice.

A group of us called in for a drink after a day's fell walking. The pub is in a great location above the village, with superb views of the surrounding fells. We dropped anchor at a table on the spacious sun terrace. There was a fair selection of real ales to complement the usual lagers, etc.
The stone-flagged bar was atmospheric, and the dining room and sitting room behind the terrace were welcoming, and well appointed. Acid test result: pass - would definitely call again.

We stayed here for 2 nights with friends occupying 4 rooms in April. The rooms are in need of updating, in particular the bathroom although I must say that the bed is one of the comfiest I have slept in. When we went to dinner on the Saturday night they could only offer us a choice of 2 courses off the varied menu which I though was extremely poor and it wasn't brilliant when it came. They were turning people away for food on the night and also the following lunchtime as well. Do they want the business?? The room was not cleaned properly the following day - bins weren't emptied and coffee/milk not re-stocked even though we were paying premium rates for the rooms. We decided to eat in the village the following night at the Black Bull. The food was very good and we were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast on the first morning at the Sun was chaotic and it took for ever to arrive but when it did it was good. Some of the staff were very miserable apart from the bar manager who was really nice. There is something seriously lacking here - not sure what? Wouldn't return nor recommend. Try Wilsons nearby - only called in for a drink but lovely people and food and rooms looked amazing.
