Don't miss these things: the film about his life tells you what an advanced visionary he was, his gardens are sweet, and the walk up behind the house, all the way to the top of the fell, gives a great view of Old Man Coniston. Take a full afternoon to do all of this if it's sunny. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

This was an extremely well thought out museum and packed full of interesting exhibits. Of particular note is the lace. There is also a section given over to Donald Campbell and the Bluebird speed trials that were held on Coniston Water. Great stuff.

I visited the museum last week and found it to be very definately in 2 parts. Firstly about the local area and John Ruskin....to be honest it was quite dull and the layout was slightly confusing.
Secondly was the wonderfull Bluebird part of the museum which i believe only recently opened. If you have any interest in the Bluebird tragedy then this museum is a "must see," and even if you don't know anything about it then this will wet your appetite to find out more....

Never expected this was going to be that good but we had to tear ourselves away in order to get a walk in. A number of subjects dealt with in an interesting way. A mix of old and new but more adult focussed. Gift aid your entrance fee (or more) and you can return as often as you want for 12 months

a tiny little museum tucket away in the little village of Coniston. However had fascinating exhibits. Can't wait to return when they have the restored Bluebird on show.
