Especially liked the exhibits on the local heros who lost their lives in the Great War and the extensive information on Donald Campbell

Visited in May 2014 after reading reviews on here. So glad we did, very informative. There is a lot to read, so if your not a reader it may not be for you. The staff were also very helpful & told us all about the old railway line which is on the bank above the museum. So glad we called in.

small but serene and wonderfully managed. I loved the John Ruskin Laceworks and the way they were stacked. The paintings and the features about A B Hargreaves were so good.

Set back off the street, very informative at reception.
Interesting history about the area and people.
The Bluebird Room has many pictures and very informative of the history of the family, there is only a small part of the Bluebird on site but whilst asking why, was informed they are rebuilding the whole boat and possibly in a years time it will be relaunched on Coniston and could reach a speed of 100 mph, after this it will then take it's rightful place back in the museum.

This is a small museum but there is more than meets the eye so don't rush round - look carefully in every nook & cranny. Much of the museum is dedicated to boats in general and the history of the famous Bluebird and Donald Campbell - the main gallery in particular. However there are also interesting installations from local artists, quotes from John Ruskin, and a gallery upstairs on a mezzanine level which sometimes has further art exhibitions (I loved the one there yesterday). Don't miss the model village which can be viewed through a window. If you want to take photographs, you need to pay £1 at the entrance for a photography licence - I preferred this to not being permitted at all, and as the entrance fee itself was reasonable I did not mind. Interesting bits in the gift shop though my son was disappointed by the lack of toys / appealing items for children. All in all we enjoyed a good look around.
