“Excellent cottage and lovely location”
Reviewed 21 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Just enjoyed a thoroughly enjoyable stay in this cottage. The cottage is isolated but in a beautiful setting and ideal for walks from the doorstep. We used the cards and maps provided and recommend by the owners. The weather was gorgeous so sat in the garden watching the birds in the feeders, apparently red squirrels visit the cottage but we were not fortunate enough the see them, although we did get a visit from some sheep. The cottage is well equipped and log burner easy to use. The only minor down point and need to know if you have a pet or small children is that the cottage next door, although not in use at the moment, is getting done up and it is a shared garden. That apart I highly recommend this cottage.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and found the maps we provided useful. To have such a variety of walks straight from the door is a huge plus. Not sure I agree with your definition of isolated though - we are, as described, one in a row of cottages with houses both up and down the road and Coniston a 5 min drive away. It is quiet and peaceful but not isolated (I think)! Please see photos for the garden. We have to the right hand side of the path, but everyone is friendly and we are all to share if the need be!

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 7 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

I've never wrote a review before, I though this was worthy of one :)

Just got back from Acorn Cottage, had an amazing time. Christine (the owner) was very helpful before we got there and even provided us with milk, biscuits and tea/coffee which was a great touch. Cottage was lovely presented and the bed was really comfortable. The cottage itself is a 10min drive to Coniston Village and is remote from any busy lifestyle. Just a 2min walk away was a very picturesque slate quarry and as it was raining we got the delight of seeing the waterfall down it, very nice. Ambleside is only 20mins the opposite way, we ate out and found the village very nice too.

If you want a nice quiet place to relax with your family and the dog, this is the place. I will be going back in the summer when hopefully it isn't raining. Thanks Christine xxxxxx

“Cosy cottage in an excellent location”
Reviewed 26 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

The cottage is in a beautiful remote location and is extremely well equipped. The beds are really comfortable with great views. We snuggled down in the evenings in front of the wood burning stove under the quilts from the bed and watched movies from the games cupboard. The weather was a mixture of torrential rain and lovely blue skies but either way the cottage was a cosy and warm haven to get back to at the end of a long day.

It felt like home from home and I would highly recommend it to anyone from young families to serious walkers to more mature groups looking for peace and quiet.

We mostly cooked our meals in the cottage but went down to the Wilsons Arms in Torver on the last night and had a hearty meal.

So glad you found my cottage well equipped and a home from home - I think that's because I use, and look after it, myself!! Watch this space...I am looking at getting a new log burner. It promises to be cleaner, more efficient and have an amazing 'flame picture'....very excited!!

Very clean and well equipped. Located on very quiet lane offering total tranquility. Possible to walk to Three Shires pub for good beer and food.
Access to great walks from cottage or by driving just a few miles.

No mobile signal but a pay phone in cottage ensures contact is possible if needed. The WI-FI worked superbly which was great for helping with walk planning.

“A perfect cottage away from the hustle and bustle”

Acorn Cottage is a fantastic property in a beautiful setting and is presented exactly as marketed. We use holiday cottages every year, and this is one of the best we have come across. What makes it different are the little things such as the quality kitchen utensils and amount of equipment in the cottage including things like thermos flasks and picnic plates and knives you can use. Normally you get the basic bulk purchase Ikea stuff in a holiday let, but the whole cottage feels like its someone's home your are borrowing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others without hesitation and it represents excellent value for money in the area as well.

Liked best: Quality of fixtures, fittings, furniture and equipment
Liked least: Being a pet friendly property the rug in the lounge did smell a but "doggy", but this is a very minor niggle on an otherwise perfect cottage

“Fantastic setting - very comfortable cottage”

We have just enjoyed two weeks of blissful sunshine staying here - the ability to walk straight from the front door is a huge bonus . The surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful . Cottage very comfortable and good value - well equipped . We would have loved some comfy garden seating albeit we were in middle of a heat wave !

“A perfect choice”

We rented the cottage in early May and it proved to be all that we could of wished for. With the mixed weather it was reassuring to know that there was a warm and welcoming cottage to return to. The quiet surroundings suited us and it was a pleasure to see on the first morning three deer grazing opposite. On arrival the cottage was found to be clean & tidy throughout. Beds were comfortable & the two bathrooms worked exceptionally well for our party of five. A short car journey away is the town Coniston with its variety of pubs/shops & restaurant s , in addition the cottage’s info book contained a variety of leaflets relating to pubs /restaurants in the locality .The cottage’s wireless internet connection worked well . Spoilt for choice with local walks of varying degrees of difficulty all enjoyed by our two Goldens. All in all a perfect choice.
