Owner description: Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. There is a mobility scooter available for use for those who are less able to get around the Tarn.

This is a lovely walk, around 2 miles long and fairly flat. It is ideal with younger children - we have done this walk with a pushchair and a toddler.

Beautiful in autumn and one of my favourite places in the Lakes.

Tarn Hows is an excellent introduction to lakeland walking for young children and the novice hiker. A leisurely walk around the lake will take no more than two hours with good gently undulating paths. There is a large car park with excellent toilet facilities and a small visitors centre, be warned it gets extremely busy, best to arrive early at weekends and school holidays if the weather is good.
