Owner description: Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. There is a mobility scooter available for use for those who are less able to get around the Tarn.

We stumbled across this and it was the highlight of the trip - beautiful spot and well maintained by the National Trust as is all of the Lakeland Park

We looked for places to go in the Lake District for families with a pram. Tarn Hows was recommended and didn't disappoint. There is a path that circles the entire lake and there are some great places to sit and have a picnic. The views are stunning and my 4 year old also loved it. A clean, lovely place and definitely one to visit if you have small children.

Bring some change for the parking meter though!

We follow the postcode in trip advisor for tarn hows and it leads you to no where but a cottage. It will take you 45 mins to walk to where actual Tarn Hows.

But overall it is a nice place to take photos and take a deep breath.

Lovely walk from Coniston along a stretch of the Cumbria Way. A mix of paths through farm land, woods and a short stretch of single track tarmac - all uphill - will get you to Tarn Hows in a very leisurely 1-2 hours - depending on how much zig zagging and climbing the kids do.

Most people seem to drive up the single track and so the easy access does mean the site can be busy.

Great spot for a picnic on a sunny day.

Parking is quite expensive and the ice cream vendor takes full advantage of his monopoly status.

Rugged buggies available to hire on site allow those who are less mobile to enjoy their visit.

Lovely little mountain Lake, takes only about 45 mins to walk around with an stead stroll. Good wide well maintained footpaths in wooded surrounds and for those who are disabled or find walking difficult, you can hire a Large size mobility scooter at the Rangers office next to the car park. The exit is one way out though a wooded road, if you take it steady, you may see Deer watering at the stream, if you keep your eyes scanning ahead
