“Super Place by the lake”
Reviewed 27 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We had a lovely week fell walking, kayaking on the lake and relaxing. The cottage is a good base and is well equipt, clean and comfortable. Dogs are allowed. We didn't take a dog, but the lounge does smell a bit 'doggy'. It's not unpleasant just a faint doggy smell. But if you don't mind that the place is difficult to fault. The local pub in Torver was very agreeable with tasty food.

Management Response
28 Jul 2015
Thank you for taking the time to review our cottage. It's always lovely to hear when guests have enjoyed their holiday at The Farmhouse.
You certainly managed to make the most of what the area has to offer with your fell walks, kayaking and last but not least, important relaxation time!
However, we are sorry that you were able to sense a 'doggy smell' downstairs. As we accept dogs in to the cottage which is largely carpeted, this has always the potential to be a slight issue for owners that choose to bring dogs. The carpets are professionally cleaned regularly but we are now looking in to getting wooden or flag stone floors fitted downstairs as this will be more practical for guests who do bring dogs.
Thank you once again for your review.

“A quiet and tranquil holiday”
Reviewed 23 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Quaint old fashioned home with all mod cons. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. Well away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. Stroll to the lake, down the lane or through the woods--bliss. Only thing to be wary of is if you are tall mind your head on the front door and upstairs loo. Will definitely come again.

“A beautiful cottage exceeding all expectations”
Reviewed 23 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

My wife and I took the in-laws for a weekend treat. The cottage was well equipped with everything you needed and more. It was cosy, exceptionally clean, well maintained and the location was second to none. A short drive to either coniston or ulverston, which gives you the choice to eat out or just stay in and enjoy the home comforts. Home comforts consisted of games, book's and DVDs to keep all occupied, and the kitchen was so well equipped even Jamie Oliver would of been in his element.

“Fantastic, very well equipped cottage in a beautiful location. Log fires every night, perfect!”

Despite 'The Farmhouse' being easy to find, it is in a beautiful, rural spot where the only sounds you can hear is that of owls and the occasional baa-ing of sheep. Coniston lake is only a minute's walk down the path and there's lots of play places surrounding the cottage.
The cottage is cosy but with ample space to relax in (helped by the great wood burning stove). Beds were all very comfortable and the owner has provided every possible essential item you would need (washing powder, dishwasher tabs, free logs, bottle of wine!). We came to the cottage to 'get away from it all' and The Farmhouse did just that and more. Will definitely be back.

“The cottage was in a fairly good location but was dark and felt neglected.”

From the description we expected more privacy but the front of the cottage is overlooking the neighbours house. The sitting out area described was overgrown and was often shaded when we would have used it. Unfortunately there had been a dog staying in the cottage the week preceding our stay and as a result there was a very strong `wet dog`smell especially in the sitting room and around the sofa. There was also a strong smell of cooking/fried food which as not very welcoming. The bedrooms were very comfortable but on the whole we felt we have stayed in a better standard accommodation for the equivalent cost.

“Perfect in everyday”
Reviewed 29 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We have just returned after an amazing well deserved break from everyday life. The cottage was in the most idyllic position right on the lake. The cottage itself was also very comfortable with everything you could wish for. Harvey the dog was in his eliment with swimming everyday.
Excellent for travelling to other lakes besides Coniston. We usually stay in Pooley Bridge and fancied a change and it was well worth it. We shall definitely return again.

“Delightful Cottage in a perfect Setting”
Reviewed 10 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Coniston water is at the end of the garden. A private beach enclosed for the use of this property. There is a back door onto pristine woodland. The lounge, kitchen and bedroom furniture is of a high standard. The kitchen is well equipped with enough items to show that it is used by the owners themselves on occasion. It was in a beautiful location, and central enough to explore the lake district. There is a good parking spot. There is a piano as well as books and games.
