We enjoyed a pleasant 2 night stay at the Waterhead hotel. The staff were welcoming on arrival and we were shown to our room, we stayed in an out building which had two floors, our room was on the top floor. The room was clean and was kept nice and warm as it was snowing outside during our stay although the decor in the room could do with a bit of an update. Breakfast was lovely and the hotel was in a perfect location to explore Coniston and surrounding areas by foot, bus or car.

We were using a gift voucher for our cream tea.
It was all very mediocre, though the staff were very pleasant. Would not bother going again.
The decor was very drab and lacked atmosphere.
I think it probably relies on its location for business.

There are some great hotels in the Lake District, this is not one of them. On their website they show a great menu served in their new re-furbished bistro, however they offered a selection of two starters (soup and pate) plus 4 mains, two of them being pies. By the way this wasn't a Sunday out of season, this was the Friday of May bank holiday. I paid nearly £70 for a single stay, the room, poor menu and overall look of hotel was more like a £40 stay. I spend loads of weekends in the lakes, but will not be using this hotel again. It is part of a chain, what surprises me is that the senior management are obviously not reading the trip advisor reviews.

Second visit to this hotel and won't be our last. We had a very friendly welcome once again and a comfortable room at the rear of the hotel with a view of the mountains. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. We didn't have the evening meal but friends that did said it was very good. The hotel is in a beautiful situation at the head of the lake, a ten minute walk from Coniston. It's the perfect place for a relaxing break.

The hotel is in a beautiful location, walking distance into Coniston and to the lake. In fact the beautiful hotel grounds lead down to the lake. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. We thought the breakfast was good and there was plenty to choose from, breakfast cereals, fruit (not fresh), croissants, yogurts etc. As well as a choice from the cooked menu. I can't comment on the evening meals as we walked into Coniston and ate at the Crown Inn (very nice). The only downside was the uncomfortable mattress. Overall we had a enjoyable stay.

This is the second time we have stayed here and I'm afraid to say we won't stay again. The one thing I really look for when I'm away is a good restful night sleep. The mattress is really old and my ribs were aching so bad after the second night..... Not relaxing at all.

Breakfast was fine, no cheese, or cold meats and a distinct lacking of fresh fruit.

Staff very friendly!

we only spent one night here as it was bought as a gift for my husband and I.We received a warm welcome the lady on reception was friendly and able to answer our questions on where to go for a short walk, somewhere to eat etc .Our room was clean and comfortable and well equipped with nice views of countryside and hills. The gardens to the hotel were lovely although they were setting up teppes for a wedding whilst we were there(lovely location). There was an offer on for a 3 course evening meal so we ended up staying in to eat.My husband ordered chicken but was told that there was no chcicken left which seemed strange as we were the only 2 eating there at that time, never the less, the food was very well presented and delicious the only fault was as we were the only 2 in the restaurant so it lacked atmosphere.breakfast next morning was good with plenty of choice of cereal/ fruit/pastries and a choice of full English or a lighter meal ie sandwhich or eggs on toast.
We would consider staying here again if we were in the area.
