My family of four spent three nights at Bankground Farm and absolutely loved it. Jonathan and Shayla were perfect hosts, with great recommendations on where to eat and what to do. Jonathan arranged for a sailboat hire and had it delivereed to the farm's dock. Shayla made lunches for our sailing and hiking adventures, as well as an excellent dinner one night. We stayed in the old farmhouse and had a great breakfast there each morning, and tea in the garden in the afternoons. Shayla's sweets at tea time were perfect and plentiful. The beds and furniture in the room were comfortable, the bathroom perfectly good with surfaces to place toiletries and the common rooms were inviting and well equipped. If you are a fan of the Swallows & Amazon books, you can't help but be excited to sleep in the same house that once housed the Walkers, in a fictional sort of way.

If you are seeking quiet in the country, Coniston is the place to be and Coniston Water a lovely lake. Other towns in the Lake District are more crowded and touristy. Climbing the mountain, Old Man Coniston, was a grand adventure. Just walking the roads and pathways was a pleasure. We will certainly be back and need look no further than Bankground Farm to know we are staying at the perfect place to be.

We arrived earlier than expected at Bank Ground and enjoyed watching Jonathan work a herd of cows into the barn. The farm is situated on a slope overlooking Lake Conistan and the village, with dramatic views of Old Man Conistan in the background. The front garden is beautiful and along the side of the property is a lovely area with garden chairs where one can just sit and drink in the breathtaking views. It is such a short drive to the village that we were glad we had booked at Bank Ground - why stay along a roadway/in the town when you can experience such stunning views and tranquility? You can even arrive by boat as the farm extends right down to the lake. Jonathan and Shayla run an amazing business. I have been to farm B and B's where you feel that you are quite secondary to the farming aspect. Not so with Jonathan! He is a very kind and relaxed owner manager who never made us feel that he was in a rush to leave chatting with us - a real people person! He has a genuine interest in the welfare and experience of the guests and is very helpful and knowledgeable in providing advice about the local area. The B and B rooms are situated in a very old building (1500's?) soaked with character, yet the rooms have modern facilities and are outfitted with a touch of luxury. Complimentary glass bottles of water are provided, along with the usual tea/coffee amenities and bathroom soaps. There was also a bowl of fresh fruit in the hallway. Shayla managed the breakfast service which was wonderful! They serve a typical English breakfast with the best quality sausages on our trip to the uk! I also enjoyed the daily fresh fruit salad. The self-catering cottages are attached to the main building and appear to be modern but in the character of the Lake District, with a grey slate exterior. There is a very good laundry facility attached to the self-catering cottages that the B and B guests can use as well (small coin fee). I was with my 89 year old mother who has travelled the uk extensively in the past and she said that "Bank Ground is my overall favourite - ever!" She enjoyed the beautiful lounges on the main floor. There is an honesty bar as well, which I think is a wonderful idea, so there is no need to worry about driving back from a pub in the village. All in all it was a heavenly few days - my son and I hiked up Old Man Conistan and hope we are lucky enough to return to Bank Ground some day - but I would book a full week next time!

15 of us stayed in the Barn at Bank Ground to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Barn has an extremely well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and good bathrooms. The dining table seated us all and became the hub of our extremely sociable breakfasts and dinners. The sitting room is extremely spacious with lots of sofas and chairs and fabulous views all round of the magnificent Coniston vista.
Jonathon and Shayla were extremely helpful, both before and during, our stay. We can thoroughly recommend the home baked bread and lovely scones.
If you are planning a family/friends get-together you will not find a better place than the Barn at bank Ground.

We stayed in The Barn with friends. Well-designed conversion in a superb location. It's a joy to sit outside on a sunny evening looking over Coniston Water towards the Old Man.

The Barn is well-equipped with an excellent kitchen and a large lounge area and a huge table ideal for big groups. The owners supply top quality bacon, sausage and bread so don't miss out.

Ruskin's Brantwood is a short walk away and there are great walks in every direction.

My husband and I stayed at Bank Ground Farm two nights in last June.
Seeing the calm and peaceful scenery surrounding the B&B, we felt really relaxed after busy schedule in London and Carlisle and long train trip along the Cumbria Cost.
As nobody was in the house when we arrived late in the evening, we wondered what we should do for a while. Then we found a note from the host near the entrance. It led us to the room to stay and there was another note with a plenty of tea set. Besides welcoming greeting it said that some meals for dinner which we had asked in advance were prepared in the kitchen to serve by ourselves. So we explored in the house to the kitchen looking for our meals. That made us relaxed like being at home and excited with somewhat adventurous feeling like the Swallow’s crew.
The room was really wonderful with the view overlooking Coniston water and also with comfortable beds. We enjoyed taking a walk along the lake and visiting Brantwood, John Ruskin’s museum during the stay.
I am very sorry I was not able to express this feeling of joy to the hosts directly in English. It was hard for me to listen to English and more I got shy of speaking. And yet they were very kind to us. They helped us by arranging cars for our moving and by keeping our luggage.
We would never forget the wonderful memories of staying at Holly How and We hope the environment would never changed.

We stayed for two night's in the bed & breakfast accommodation and it was great. We had two rooms overlooking Coniston lake. The staff is always welcoming and the best breakfast in the UK is served. Great base from where to explore Coniston, Hawkshead, Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere.
Bankground Farm has a great tearoom and serve the best cakes.
Not often you get to spend a night on a farm overlooking a beautiful lake.
Hope to return as often as possible.
