“Great again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

The nicest thing about the Black Bull is that you meet the same staff each time you visit. They really are great efficient friendly and always there to help. This was our third visit and it was like we had never been away. Clean comfortable room, good food and excellent beer what more could you want. Many thanks to all the staff for a great two days.

Stayed her from 09 until 16 September. The place was spotless and very welcoming. All the staff were friendly and we and our two friends had a great time. The breakfasts were brilliant and as for the evening meals - stupendous. My only advice to those eating there is wear loose clothes, you won't want to waste anything! Our room was comfortable, warm and cosy, and the bathroom was brilliant.

We ate here twice, on both occasions we were very happy with our meals, which were homemade, good sized portions. On the first night we had the chilli (not particularly spicy, just nice) and Cumberland sausage. The second night my husband had the chilli and I had roast pork loin which was on the specials board.

Good food, good prices, recommended.

We had a great weekend here . The food was excellent and good portions . Room in the annex was good with a brilliant power shower. As for breakfast !!!!! If you eat it all it will last you all day unless you climb " The Old Man " three times like we did :-) The staff at breakfast were particularly good and the dogs Buster and Mini would like to thank them for the sausages . Only downside was the cost . £260 for two nights ( 2 adults , 2 dogs ) is a lot . The thing that made it worse was the price of the (excellent ) beer at £3.60 for the low gravity Blue Bird bitter ( it's gorgeous ) going up to £4.80 for the amazingly drinkable 8.5% barley wine .
All and all a very enjoyable weekend and thanks to all the staff . If you need any help with quality control ( the beer ) I'm your man .

We went here yesterday to have something to eat after visiting my dads grave in Torver as he was born and raised here.
My husband always says the guest beers in here are lovely so he enjoyed a couple of Bluebird Bitters with his lunch.
We both chose the home made haddock and chips, we made a mistake of ordering bread and butter with ours but there was no need to there was ample on the plate to keep any fell walking person going for the whole day at £10.95 for fish and chips which is not that bad for the Lakes, very nice good size fish i wish i had taken a picture as it filled my plate. Food was displayed well, the only thing i would say was if you like a lightly battered fish as i do the batter was very thick (Bluebird Ale Batter) so ask for it lightly battered and you would not go wrong.
Sunday lunches looked good but why people serve them in deep bowels i dont under stand this?
I have eaten before here andi have stayed in one of the rooms next to the water, staff are friendly and very welcoming. Give it atry
