Another stay at Browside Bed & Breakfast. This is a lovely friendly B & B in a lovely part of the Lake District, all the rooms are very comfortable, clean with great beds and nice bathrooms. The breakfasts that Helen cooks are just gorgeous, even better whilst gazing over the fields watching the hens and sheep wander around, with great views over towards Coniston Lake with the magnificent hills in the distance. It's a perfect place for walking many walks in all directions straight from the door, low level or higher ones such as the Old Man or Dow Crag also it's in a perfect location for driving to the coast or to other local villages. We usually stay in their beautifully appointed cottage next door, for a week earlier in the year but it's also nice to be able to come up and stay for a couple of nights in their B & B as another option.

Room Tip: All rooms are very comfortable looking with nice views, all rooms are quiet being away from the road

My partner and I have just returned from 4 nights at the Browside, staying in the Pine View Room. We had this room by accident rather than design as it was the only one left when we booked, and it was wonderful! A huge bed, small but perfectly formed shower room, lovely patio doors onto a little seating area that we were lucky enough to be able to use and a fantastic view of the resident hens and on one occasion most of the sheep from the neighbouring farm who appeared to have broken down the gate!
Helen was a lovely host, on hand with a weather forecast every morning and supplier of a wonderful breakfast, tasty, well cooked and a great start to every day. Helen also provided us with a packed lunch most days, for a charge of £5 each, and this was also tasty, well made and excellent value for money.
Location wise we found that the walk to Torver took around 15/20 minutes and the lakeside walk into Coniston took around 50 minutes, although you can get into Coniston much quicker if you go left out of the gates and follow the footpath that runs parallel with the main road.
We enjoyed our stay at Browside so much that we have already recommended it to my partners parents who booked for later this month.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, we have 2 big celebrations to plan next year and hope to return for at least one of them!

What a gem we found, a home style B+B with quality facilities, attention to creature comforts and a hospitable host. The room was cosy, comfortable and immaculately clean with stunnning view., The large picture windows allowed us to watch sheep, hens and horses strolling the fields whilst we lay in bed with complete privacy. We own a hotel ourselves and so really appreciate what effort Helen clearly puts into her business to ensure the highest level of comfort and enjoyment for her guests. We wish you lots of success.

Browside B&B was the most important stop on our month-long trip to England—it came at the end of our first day walking the Cumbria Way, 15 tiring-but-scenic miles for a pair of novice walkers, and would set a tone for the remaining 60 or so miles. Unforeseen, my wife came down with a chest cold as we completed that day, and rain moved in to the area of Coniston. Fortunately, the quiet but welcoming B&B that Helen and Allan have created served us perfectly. We stayed for four nights, which proved most fortuitous.

Breakfasts were top-notch and unhurried, and the view never tiring as we looked towards Brantwood on the far shore of Coniston Water (the lake itself is barely out of view). It's been said that sheep are soothing (why we count them when we can't sleep) and so it is, as they wander the rolling landscape through stone walls that is your real-time picture window. Farm animals gather outside the house whenever Helen tosses out food scraps (it's not garbage, city folk)—remember, this is a farm. The chickens respond with free-range eggs for your enjoyment! The sausage and bacon were also local, fresh, and delicious. And there's real cream for your coffee or tea. Everything was tied together by Helen's friendly, warm presence, whether chatting with us about everyday matters or offering trail directions to the Old Man of Coniston or town.

Our room and bath were smallish but finished to an expected high standard, evidence of Allan's skill as a contractor (thank him for the dining room, too). We've come to expect smaller-than-American-sized rooms in English B&Bs, which says nothing about their value—don't judge a home by that alone. We lacked nothing. Our sleep was sound, and restful, and Kathy (with help from cold medicines) had recovered by the time we continued along the Cumbria Way.

It's been mentioned elsewhere that the B&B is outside of Coniston a ways, but it's barely a mile—and we can recommend the walk, whether returning in the evening after dinner in the town or breakfast and headed into a new day of exploring. A graveled path opposite the B&B runs right to the edge of Coniston, with only a short stretch of road walking. Check the bus schedule, too—there's a stop at the foot of Browside's drive.

We did miss breakfast on the day we left, choosing to walk into Coniston at sunrise to rejoin the Cumbria Way. Stepping out the front door into the hush of another English morning, I felt grateful to Helen and Allan for making a place where we could truly relax and consider the enjoyment and beauty around us.

First time to this area, and picked this bed and breakfast on the excellent reviews on trip advisor. Once there, we weren't disappointed. Met with a friendly welcome from our hostess, Helen, room immaculately clean and it just felt like home as soon as you walked in. There was a very helpful book which Helen had put together with walks from outside the front door and sample menus from the local eateries which we found very helpful, she even gave us the encouragement to try and walk up 'The OLd Man of Coniston'.Lovely time, lovely holiday. If anyone wants a lovely bed and breakfast close to any all amenities -this is the one.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights walking the Cumbria Away 9th/10th July. Helen couldn't have been more kind and welcoming as we arrived late after a very hot 16 mile walk. She gave us time to shower then gave us a lift to the pub and even picked us up after the meal, something that isn't normally offered as it's not far away, but after our long walk it seemed it! Lovely breakfast choice.
We'll certainly stay there again when we visit the area.

Been here before, and once again a lovely stay for 3 nights, the room was comfortable, quiet and well appointed (woodland room).
Perfectly situated close to lake Coniston just a ten minute walk to the lake shore, and only a twenty minute walk into Coniston itself.
Helen and Allan were great hosts, thanks once again.
