“A slice of pure heaven”
Reviewed 17 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Our stay at Shelt Gill got off to a shaky start when we were greeted on our first morning with no electricity. However after a short walk into Coniston the landlord of the Black Bull pub made us a sumpteous bacon buttie and cup of coffee. When we returned to the cottage the neighbours had been onto the electric board and told us that the power would be restored on the afternoon - which it was. The views in every direction are stunning and everything is walking distance, the village, the lake, somewhere to eat, shop. The cottage is warm and comfy and the window seat is the most amazing place to sit. The garden is perfect for wildlife photography. The neighbours are really friendly, as are the staff at the nearby Ship Inn where we were welcomed every time we walked in. Its a perfect place to stay if you are looking for peace, quiet, beautiful scenery, and friendly locals, The area is also equipped to cater for those who enjoy cycling, walking and sailing.

“perfect location, beautiful cottage”
Reviewed 12 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Stayed here with my 7 and 10 year olds who had just read Swallows and Amazons. The views from the windows are stunning, as is the sound of the stream. Inside, we all loved the window seats, the upside down layout, the comfy beds and the calm. Outside we loved the disused railway line that runs opposite and leads to Torver (and pubs), The Ship Inn and the footpath to the lakeshore (2 mins walk) and Coniston (5 mins). It meant being able to do so many walks and bike rides without needing the car.

What a wonderful place to get away from it all! Shelt Gill has everything you need, especially if you enjoy great walks and cosy pubs! Fantastic garden - huge! BBQ, board games and a massive picture window with window seat overlooking Lake Coniston. Can't wait to go back!

“Fab cottage for making memories with family or friends”
Reviewed 25 January 2016 for a stay in October 2015

Shelt Gill is a special place which I have visited twice with two different groups of friends and enjoyed every minute both times. It is in a stunning location and is cosy and warm inside. Perfect for fresh countryside walks around the Lake District or gentle strolls to the nearby local pubs. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a lovely little lakeside getaway.

Visited here with husband and two children - absolutely amazing! Perfect location, beautiful views and lovely surroundings. The cottage itself is so homely and cosy, it has everything you would want and more - highly recommended. We cant wait to visit this cottage again and make some more happy memories.

“Location Location Location”
Reviewed 24 January 2016 for a stay in November 2015

Stayed here with 5 friends, plenty of room to accommodate us. The views are breathtaking. Lots of garden space for outdoor living during the summer. Location is perfect, within walking distance of the centre of Coniston, nearest pub is a stones throw, yet being set back off the main stretch gives you lots of privacy. You can reach the lake in 5-10 minutes walk and it's a perfect base to explore the Old Man or surrounding fells.
Lovely cosy cottage, very homely. Has everything you need for comfortable stay. Very clean upon arrival, would recommend.
Will certainly be back for another stay in the near future.

What a wonderful cottage shelt Gill is.. Have stayed here on two occasions now and will definitely be making a third trip very soon. A lovely, cosy, family friendly cottage with everything you need on your door step. Cosy in winter and a lovely garden to enjoy in summer. Nearest pub is a 1 minute walk away and other shops and pubs in the centre Of Coniston about ten mins away. Easy to find off the main road and ample parking available. Very good cottage rental, comes highly recommended.
