“Nice Bistro”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

Our first night in Grasmere and we were lucky to stumble across Sara's Bistro. Friendly staff and good food at reasonable prices. Well worth a visit. The night we were there they had a special off - if you ordered 2 starters and 2 main courses you got a free bottle of wine. A very drinkable Argentinian Malbec

“Pay a visit”

We wandered around Grasmere looking for something to eat one evening. Bit of a strange place, as everything seems to close at 6 pm. However, we stumbled across this place - try the mussels - excellent food and service.

We booked Sara's on a whim having read the great reviews on here and it didn't disappoint! Grasmere offers so many hotel dining options and Sara's provides a lovely alternative.

It was busy without feeling crowded and had a nice relaxed feel to it. To start with we had the king prawns with chilli from the specials menu and goats cheese from the main. Both were delicious & made from lovely fresh ingredients.

We both ordered the fillet steak for main. My wife fell in love with the sound of the dauphinoise & braised cabbage accompanying the lamb and asked if she could have these instead of the chips etc with her steak. Her request was no trouble to the team at Sara's and the excellent & friendly service was one of the highlights of the night...the absolutely delicious, locally sourced, fillet steak being the other! We are both big steak fans and this was the nicest we've had.

We finished with the pavlova special and their famous sticky toffee pud, which were also fantastic. Sadly our holiday is over now but we really hope to go back to Sara's next time we are up in The Lakes.

“Great food and service ”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed in grasmere for 2 nights whilst away for a special birthday celebration. On our first night we didn't realise that there were more people than spaces in restaurants so having failed to book anywhere (including Sara's) we wandered for a while and later on popped in to Sara's to try our luck and Wahoo! A couple had just finished.....we liked it so much we went back the second night!

We were greeted nicely and shown to our table both times. The menu is small but with a range of carefully selected meals to choose from and if we were there for longer we would have tried everything. We had the lamb, pork chops on the first night and steak and seafood carbonara the second. Both nights the food was outstanding. Steak was lovely, my carbonara was perfect with tiger prawns. Just lovely. Very happy indeed! The prosecco is really lovely too I would recommend this! My only few improvements were the coffees which were not the best and needs some training and our starter on the first night tasted a bit of washing up liquid (but it is not huge!)

The service was spot on too, relaxed but efficient and friendly. Always greeted with smiles and there were no major problems with anything.

The restaurant is small and quaint which I loved but makes booking essential. Live music would be lovely here.

Finally price. Very reasonable for the quality of food. For 2 of us having 2 courses and prosecco was about £80.

I would definately recommened and we would certainly return given the chance.
