“Just OK”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

The food here is a bit hit and miss, had filled Yorkshire which was nice, but second time had burnt fish and chips. Real ale selection is quite poor, only the Hawkshead Windermere Ale was any good.

This is a busy place and some of the tables are squeezed in, particularly the tables just to the right of the entrance which have very little leg room. The bar area isn't particularly spacious and on occasion groups of drinkers can crowd the room.

There are better places to eat and drink in Grasmere if you look.

“good beer & food at a reasonable price”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

The pub has certainly had a facelift since I was last here. Some of the seating is ,to say the least, a little tight even for average sized people but generally it is comfortable. The menu covers the usual pub food and the standard and price were both good. If you like to have a starter there is not much choice. There was a good selection of beers and the bottles of wine were reasonably priced. I also had a pot of tea on a separate occasion and that was also good value. The staff were friendly and helpful. A good choice.

“Worst Meal in 2 weeks of travelling”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

I followed my colleagues choice of Fried Haddock and Chips.
Served with Peas and Tartar Sauce it looked good although well cooked.
The fish inside the batter was almost non existent, I thought it might have been refried from lunchtime. We both should have sent the meal back it was so bad.
most other meals around looked good and guests appeared happy, we just had an extra beer to drown our sorrows.I will not return!
