We ate here as a party of 8 on Saturday 12th April & to say we were disappointed is an understatement.

We were seated after ordering drinks at the bar & after 20mins when we indicated we were ready to order we were told to order at the bar, would have been helpful to know this on arrival.

Out of 12 meals (8 mains & 4 desserts) 5 had to be returned for being too cold or not cooked at all.

One meal after being sent back was clearly microwaved within an inch of its life, this meal was not even eaten in the end.

There was no apology from anyone & we at each stage said we are not paying for that particular meal, however after two undercooked creme brûlée's & a rock hard sticky toffee pudding we wanted to voice our concerns & receive a gesture for the total ruin of our experience.

The manager on duty said there was nothing more he could do (again not even an apology) & we needed to speak to the general manager Jason Moore.

We paid the bill (minus the ruined meals) & were told the GM would be in to talk to the next day, however after calling today we are told he is not in until Thursday.

Just disgraceful on all levels, service, food & accountability.

We come to Grasmere a lot usually in big parties & we will not be returning to the swan hotel .

Thank Sandrabuckle

The food was very good but expensive and not what you should expect for a bar meal. The room was quite dark and cramped and you could not have a private conversation without others listening in. The service was very good though. Drinks very expensive!!

Popped in here after a day on the Fells faced a beer stood at bar for 10 minutes before the barman arrived who then served 2 people refused an offer of help from a colleague and then walked off saying I've got to check someone in. Either they are short on staff or its bad planning either way the service was poor and the barman receptionist rude avoid! better hotels in Grasmere!

Popped in on a warm, sunny February day after a nice walk. Poor range of beer - some were off and it was standard, nothing special. The "Walkers Bar" is a bit fancy, not really what you'd expect. But the oddest thing was that we wanted to sit outside and the beer garden was closed. Open it up then! It's not difficult!

Popped in for lunch on our way back from Keswick. Friendly chap running the bar, and seeming to do everything else too! So quite a wait to be served. Thought the ploughmans was overpriced at £12 for three chunks of bread, four sticks of celery, a slice of Stilton and half a bought pork pie. The fish platter had four slices of bread, two slices of smoked salmon (they had run out of mackerel) and a portion of prawns on four lettuce leaves. We had to ask for butter. A 175ml of white wine cost over £5.50. Ouch! Lovely location and hard working staff but there are many other lovely places close by that are better value.
