My wife and I spent three nights in Grasmere . We did not stay at the Swan, but decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at their restaurant . We were not disappointed. We were welcomed by a very pleasant young man who was probably the Head Waiter.

We had a really nice two course meal with wine, which by Lake District standards was really good value.

The service was excellent and I would certainly eat there again.

We had booked a table for 3 at 7 15. The restaurant was very quiet with only 4 other tables occupied (Easter Sunday - we thought would have been busy!) Non the less- we ordered drinks and food from the hotel reception area as we waited for our table, and 45 mins later, we hadn't received any drinks, and we were shown to the table as the main course arrived. The food was very average, veg were very under done (as we like them actually), but we saw many returned for being "almost raw", and the "sauce" accompanying my steak was not heated at all - it was a block of stilton mixed with butter!
The staff were friendly, but sadly, some did not speak English.
Needless to say, we didn't bother to stay for deserts!

We stayed for one evening in the off season - February 27 - at the Swan Hotel and were given a credit towards our dinner bill at the hotel restaurant. So it was nice to be able to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in their lounge and then to move over to the dining room for dinner without ever having to leave the hotel in the chill of the February evening. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and inviting. Our meals were done to perfection, and the waiter was professional, yet friendly. I hope someday to come back and stay longer, and to try other items offered on their exceptionally inviting menu.

We had a lovely meal here on Saturday. Our food was extremely well presented and very tasty. My salmon was particularly good. The deserts were scrumptious and filling. Alex, our waiter was delightful, and deserves a pat on the back for his good service and likeable manner.
