My wife and myself have just returned from a visit to The Grand at Grasmere and we were greatly impressed with the very recent remodelling to the ground floor dining room and other lounge areas of this hotel.
Our last visit to this hotel was made in February 2015 when it was known as The Gold Rill and which we had visited several times previously.
We were prior to our recent visit wondering how things had changed and would it be for the better.
Well things have changed and they are better. The same staff are there and as efficient and friendly as ever with the usual smile!
The changes to to the ground floor are dramatic and we we thought they were excellent giving a more modern furnishing approach to the Reception,Dining Area and other public areas and providing more more daylight.
The new fireplace is definately worth viewing after Dinner with a drink or two especially when the rain is beating down outside !
We both dined within the hotel on all three days of our visit and really enjoyed our selections from the menu which were prepared and served quietly and efficiently.
Certain bedrooms have been remodelled and we were given a quick tour which we appreciated. They are certainly impressive and time will see others upgraded .
Did we enjoy our stay - We certainly did !
Will we visit again - YES WE CERTAINLY WILL .

Room Tip: Visit and find a room you like.

Dear Paul K,
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel after your recent visit.
We are really happy that you enjoyed your break and will pass on your kind comments about the food and service to our team. It is so rewarding to hear such positive comments about the finished refurbishment and we really are delighted that you feel as pleased about the changes and finished refurbishment as we do.
The fire is proving to be very popular, its such a lovely feature to be met with upon entering the hotel.
There are four more bedrooms due to be refurbished in February which will bring the total upto ten.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel sometime in the future.
Kindest regards
Lorraine

We were in room 30 - gorgeous!
Absolutely spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, possibly the Most Comfortable Bed I have ever slept in, with luxury linen. Lovely view.
I grew up in the Lakes, have climbed every fell when I was younger, but find the Lakes' customer service can often leave a lot to be desired. Other Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes and Bars - please take note. This is how it should be done.
I knew it would be good, having holidayed for many years at its Sister Hotel - "The Grand, St. Annes" - (check it out). We were not disappointed. Staff excellent, professional, friendly. Food delicious. Absolutely Delicious! Range of Drinks unsurpassed. I think that what The Grand does best is that they do "The Best". That is they employ the best, they source the best local produce, they only stock the best beers, lagers, spirits and wines and they simply, in our opinion are "The Best". Did I mention the proper coathangers? With hooks. A kettle, plus Teapot, with upmarket tea, coffee etc. Plus a Coffee Machine, Nespresso pods. Flat screen TV. Views to die for. Fluffy white towels, bath robes, slippers. What more could we want? We had a re-furbished room, but I did view a couple of "original" rooms, both with new beds and linen, and I would have been happy with either of them.

We have just spent a few days at the hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have previously stayed there when it was the Gold Rill on several occasions. The location is excellent and the rooms have always been comfortable. We took advantage of the special offer so were in one of the rooms not yet renovated, therefore I can't comment on the changes to the rooms. However, I can report that the changes to the kitchen are phenomenal. The food is excellent- I had salmon that was absolutely perfectly cooked, and we liked the flexibility of dish sizes. We will definitely return, and I would choose to eat there even if just visiting Grasmere for the day.

We visited the hotel just before refurbishment, even though there was builders ect the place was still very clean and tidy, we barley noticed any of the work going on. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The food was really good and I look forward to visiting again when we are back up in the summer!

Just arrived home after an enjoyable and relaxing 2 night break at the Grand. The refurbishment looks fantastic and we loved the hotels modern, yet cosy ambience. The staff were friendly and polite, the food was delicious with plenty of choice and the views over the fells are second to none.

The hotel is a welcome addition to the village and we'll certainly be back.
