This was our first visit since the recent refurbishment. We have enjoyed our visits here over the past five years. The recent improvements to the bedrooms have enhanced the experience further. We enjoyed wonderful breakfasts and dinners and received excellent, friendly service throughout our stay once again. We look forward to our next visit in the, hopefully, not too distant future. We highly recommend this hotel and its restaurant in this beautiful village.

I stayed here with my husband last Autumn and have only just got around to writing a review. We loved the hotel and found our ground floor room most comfortable. The evening meal was excellent and everything about the stay was first class. We will be back!

A pleasure staying here, the service was friendly and efficient, breakfast were good (we didnt eat in the evening so cannot comment on this) and another plus is that there car parking available - not always available in Grasmere. The only downside was the bathroom, which was small with a cramped shower, but I understand that this is being refurbished, so that should bring it up to 5 start for next time

Thank you very much for your review. We are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with us.Your comment and comments of other guests regarding some of the bathrooms were absolutely justified. When we bought the Grasmere Hotel in December 2011 we only had time to refurbish the lounge and the restaurant. We had to wait until our first season (2012) had finished before we could make changes to the bedrooms and bathrooms. We closed the hotel in November/December for phase 1 of a huge renovation. After Christmas and New Year (when you stayed) we closed again for phase 2 which will be finished this week, ready for re-opening on 15th February. We have sacrificed a number of bedrooms to create new luxury bath and shower rooms for all remaining 11 bedrooms. All old bath and shower rooms have been removed. All bedrooms have been restyled with the help of an interior designer. Through the changes the majority of the bedrooms are now larger than before and all have new beds, furniture, carpets and curtains. We feel that the quality of our bedrooms and bathrooms now matches the quality of our food and service and the decor in the lounge and restaurant. We look forward to welcoming you to our hotel again soon.

Two of us stayed here while visiting Grasmere and the surrounds for a weekend in October 2012.

The room was very nice and comfortable. The floor was a bit wonky but this is to be expected. View not all that great but this too can't always be expected.

Sleep quality was OK... the rooms on the first floor are by a main thoroughfare so we were disturbed late at night by other people going to their rooms. We could also hear quite clearly the people in the room above us walking around. Earplugs were necessary. The building is old however so all faults come with the building's charm.

While the room was nicely decorated, the bathroom needed modernising. It was very clean however and spacious. In general, apart from the staircase, the hotel is very well and tastefully furnished

The staff were EXTREMELY helpful and kind. I couldn't have asked for better hosts. They truly know how a hotel is run. They were also very knowledgeable about the local area and the numerous and stunning walks which are very close to the hotel. Ask them for advice. They have printed information to give you

The food was also impeccable. We are normally not the type to eat in the hotel but the food was so good that we ate here both nights.

Keep in mind that the hotel is being renovated so my comments may not be relevant should you choose to stay at the Hotel.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Bring earplugs!

A wonderful Christmas break was enjoyed by us at this fabulous Hotel. We were greeted by Rob,one of the co-owners on arrival, helped with our bags and given tea and cake in the lounge. It got better from there! Our room had been newly refurbished and everything had been done to a very high standard. On arrival in the bar for dinner,we were greeted by John,a very friendly chap with a great sense of humour. Our orders were taken and we went to the dining room where we had the first of many superb meals during our stay.Anton the Chef(and co-owner)served the best food we have had anywhere and the service was to match.John,Barbara and all the staff excelled themselves. We can't wait to go back

Room Tip: Any rooms not recently refurbished are being done in Jan/Feb 2013 so take your pick
