“A lovely Easter break”
Reviewed 17 April 2013

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely Easter break at the Grasmere Hotel. Rob, Anton and team all work very hard to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing, and are attentive without ever being intrusive.

We stayed in Shelley, which has a lovely window seat view of the garden and river at the bottom of the garden, and further afield to the fells. Recently renovated, the bedroom is well laid out with plenty of storage space (so often lacking in many places) and has a large extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom (with shower over bath) is very nicely decorated and the shower really delivers.

When we booked we opted for the bed, breakfast and evening meal package, and were really glad that we had done so. It was very enjoyable to return to the hotel at the end of the day, then not have to go out again in search of an evening meal. The food is absolutely brilliant – lovely flavours, beautifully presented, and the homemade bread is really lovely. There is a very varied wine list and reasonable prices, and dessert wise I really do recommend the Grasmere gingerbread ice cream tart.

We enjoyed our stay so much so that before we left we booked to return next Easter and are looking forward to our second stay at the Grasmere Hotel. Thank you very much Rob, Anton, John and co, see you next year!

What a warm welcome by a tall Dutchman!
The rooms were spotless and clean and a good size.
Dinner Excellent and the chef certainly knows his stuff! A good choice of menu and wines.
A delicious breakfast was had by all too.
Just a shame we were only there for one night on our second leg of Coast to Coast( being done in stages)
Must make another trip back soon before it gets overbooked!
Well done on making our stay so welcoming.

My husband and I have just spent the most perfect 2 nights in this most perfect hotel. The purpose of the weekend was for a family get together and the wonderful lounges and dining room were a wonderful facilitator for this.

Our room was absolutely beautiful. Lovely comfortable bed, plush furnishings, excellent facilities and a bathroom with a wow factor.

For someone who stays in many hotels on business, the Grasmere was a real breath of fresh air for me and a world away from the mundane chains hotels where you could be in any hotel anywhere in the country and it will be identical to the last one.

The Grasmere is quite simply a beautiful boutique hotel. Rob is a great host, and each guest is made to feel very welcome. Although we didn't meet Anton, his food spoke for itself and we thoroughly enjoyed this fine dining experience. If you ever get the chance you must try his Gingerbread and meringue ice cream tart...this is basically to die for!

I wish Rob and Anton all the very best at Grasmere Hotel, they clearly love this building and have put a lot of thought into its refurbishment and they quite obviously want all of their guests to love the place as much as they do. It has worked here!

We visited this hotel last year for the first time and we were really impressed so much so that we came back this year and extended out visit. Again we were not disappointed. All the rooms had been refurbished and we were downstairs in the Wordsworth Room which was lovely, in fact I found it quite sad to leave the room. It looked over the beautiful gardens that went down to the river. We had nothing but great service from Rob, Anton and their staff who were very helpful and the breakfast and evening meals were delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

What a wonderful Hotel!
The hotel has 11 rooms and recently had new bathrooms in each one. the rooms are clean and appointed to a high specification.
The food is excellent and can cater for a wide range of alergies/deitary requirements. A four course dinner is exceptional value.
The lounge is large and has a selection of very comfortable seating.
The owners are on call at anytime and are clearly passionate about providing such a wonderful service.

Room Tip: Both the deluxe doubles have a good view.

My fiancée and I have just returned from 3 nights at The Grasmere Hotel and we can't wait to return! We are extremely fussy but thought this place was perfect. The décor of the rooms is first class. They have all just been refurbished using Farrow and Ball paint, elegant furniture, really comfortable beds and state of the art, spotless, modern bathrooms. Anton's food is first-rate and is better than at some Michelin starred restaurants we have eaten at in London. Rob is a wonderful host and could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable, including a surprise bottle of champagne and card in our room, to help us celebrate having just got engaged, and a golden chocolate bunny under our coffee cups on Easter morning. The atmosphere is very relaxing as the lounges are very comfortably furnished, (one with an open fire) and discreet background music after dinner, perfectly chosen to create a lovely ambience. The location is perfect for Grasmere village and for walking in the surrounding hills. This hotel richly deserves its number 1 rating and Rob and Anton deserve every success.

Love the Grasmere Hotel ...Went with my husband for two nights stay in March and had a lovely time despite the cold and snow ...
The bedroom was so nice with a large bathroom with a bath n shower over and total luxury with under floor heating ...
We booked to include evening four course meal and so glad we did as the food was outstanding as good as any top class restaurant and I have to say the breakfast was just as good ..Top Class..
Would go here again and the village was very pretty ....
