One of the nicest places we have stayed in. Owners Rob and Anton have sympathetically updated this Victorian hotel combining traditional features with contemporary taste all to the highest standards. In the centre of Grasmere with plenty of car parking space and with a bus stop right outside the hotel where open top buses stop every 20 minutes. Well placed for walking in the Lake District and Rob can steer you in the right direction. The lounge has an open fire and comfortable furniture where we used to meet our friends every evening for pre-dinner drinks and canapés and return to after dinner for coffee. We had a standard room which was luxurious, very comfortable bed with double walk-in shower. Top class 4-course dinner with lots of choice and scrumptious breakfasts in the dining-room which overlooks the garden and the river. Thanks to Rob, Anton and staff for looking after us so well and all your attention to detail.

After getting engaged along the way, we arrived at Grasmere Hotel. Beautiful and quiet little setting, we were greeted by Rob as we arrived in the car park. From that moment on Rob and his staff couldn't do enough to make our stay a pleasant one. Firstly we were upgraded to a superior room and Rob came up to check that everything was in place for us. Evening dinner was absolutely gorgeous and we couldn't believe the high quality of food and service for the guest discount of £19 for 4 courses! The most personal touch however was the way the staff marked our engagement; we were presented with a cake in the lounge after dinner and someone placed a card in our room whilst we were dinning!
The hotel was spotless and the rooms beautifully decorated, our window view was overlooking the garden and the river at the bottom (every room in this hotel has a pleasant view) and the stay was extremely peaceful.
We are going to return to this hotel as soon as we can have another holiday as we were so taken by its quality yet outstanding value for money!

My boyfriend and I enjoyed an excellent two night break at the Grasmere hotel from 13th-15th April. The staff were exceptional and the team worked extremely hard to make our stay as relaxing as possible. The fact this hotel only has 11 rooms means everything feels so much more personal and intimate.

The weather left a lot to be desired (!) but it really didn't matter as we truly felt relaxed and energized during and after our break.

The food is outstanding, you do not need to eat anywhere else when the dinner menus are as good as this. We still cannot get over how affordable the meals were.

Whilst we were by far the youngest guests (we are 30!) this made the stay all the more enjoyable! We certainly didn't visit Grasmere for the nightlife or the clubs ;-)

A stunning little hotel, this was a great find. We will certainly be returning. Do not hesitate to book!

Room Tip: If you can manage the stairs, stay in one of the rooms on the top floor (we were in Beatrix) - it wa...

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely Easter break at the Grasmere Hotel. Rob, Anton and team all work very hard to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing, and are attentive without ever being intrusive.

We stayed in Shelley, which has a lovely window seat view of the garden and river at the bottom of the garden, and further afield to the fells. Recently renovated, the bedroom is well laid out with plenty of storage space (so often lacking in many places) and has a large extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom (with shower over bath) is very nicely decorated and the shower really delivers.

When we booked we opted for the bed, breakfast and evening meal package, and were really glad that we had done so. It was very enjoyable to return to the hotel at the end of the day, then not have to go out again in search of an evening meal. The food is absolutely brilliant – lovely flavours, beautifully presented, and the homemade bread is really lovely. There is a very varied wine list and reasonable prices, and dessert wise I really do recommend the Grasmere gingerbread ice cream tart.

We enjoyed our stay so much so that before we left we booked to return next Easter and are looking forward to our second stay at the Grasmere Hotel. Thank you very much Rob, Anton, John and co, see you next year!

What a warm welcome by a tall Dutchman!
The rooms were spotless and clean and a good size.
Dinner Excellent and the chef certainly knows his stuff! A good choice of menu and wines.
A delicious breakfast was had by all too.
Just a shame we were only there for one night on our second leg of Coast to Coast( being done in stages)
Must make another trip back soon before it gets overbooked!
Well done on making our stay so welcoming.

My husband and I have just spent the most perfect 2 nights in this most perfect hotel. The purpose of the weekend was for a family get together and the wonderful lounges and dining room were a wonderful facilitator for this.

Our room was absolutely beautiful. Lovely comfortable bed, plush furnishings, excellent facilities and a bathroom with a wow factor.

For someone who stays in many hotels on business, the Grasmere was a real breath of fresh air for me and a world away from the mundane chains hotels where you could be in any hotel anywhere in the country and it will be identical to the last one.

The Grasmere is quite simply a beautiful boutique hotel. Rob is a great host, and each guest is made to feel very welcome. Although we didn't meet Anton, his food spoke for itself and we thoroughly enjoyed this fine dining experience. If you ever get the chance you must try his Gingerbread and meringue ice cream tart...this is basically to die for!

I wish Rob and Anton all the very best at Grasmere Hotel, they clearly love this building and have put a lot of thought into its refurbishment and they quite obviously want all of their guests to love the place as much as they do. It has worked here!

We visited this hotel last year for the first time and we were really impressed so much so that we came back this year and extended out visit. Again we were not disappointed. All the rooms had been refurbished and we were downstairs in the Wordsworth Room which was lovely, in fact I found it quite sad to leave the room. It looked over the beautiful gardens that went down to the river. We had nothing but great service from Rob, Anton and their staff who were very helpful and the breakfast and evening meals were delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
