This is a small traditional-looking Lake District hotel which has been carefully and very effectively modernised. Our room despite being on the carpark side was quiet ; it was very well-thought out and comfortable with a most excellent shower room.
We were on a half board deal which was great, because we thought the food was excellent. Beautifully cooked and interesting without being over elaborate. Suited us very well.
Best of all, Rob, the front of house half of the two owners, was a very attentive and friendly host and his staff were just brilliant.
The location, part way along one of the roads leading into Grasmere, was convenient with a spacious carpark. There was a quiet well-laid out garden at the back leading down to the river. We saw plenty of wonderful views of lakes and hills when we were out and about. So the fact that this hotel does not have one of its own did not matter to us, given all its other pluses.

We've stayed in hotels all over the world, the Grasmere Hotel has beaten them all!The staff are perfect in every way....welcoming, attentive, friendly and helpful. We found the public rooms and our bedroom very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The dining room was airy, spacious and well ordered. We must give the quality and presentation of the food as high a rating as is possible to give....perfect. We can't wait to go back and will recommend it to everyone.

4 days very enjoyable holiday - staff most friendly and helpful, excellent meals and nice comfortable room with walk in shower and pleasant gardens. Plenty of car parking space- the weather helped as well! Will definitely return to - in our opinion - the best hotel in Grasmere that we have stayed in

Room Tip: Judith room was good with nice walk in shower

My husband and I stayed here in mid June on a return to the Lake District after over 25 years and we were so delighted to have chosen to stay at the Grasmere Hotel.
Rob, Anton and his team were welcoming, friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. We stayed in the Coleridge room which was extremely comfortable, with a lovely walk in shower room. It was all spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated.
The breakfast was varied and plentiful and the food served in the evening was beautifully presented and some of the best we have ever tasted.
The hotel has a lovely tranquil air which we found delightful and sitting in the garden leading down to the river was lovely.
We are looking forward to returning next year.

Just returned from 3 nights in the Wordsworth room. Lovely room with direct access to the garden and dog friendly. Found the bed super comfy and shower nice and powerful. Staff were superb and couldn't do enough to help us go on walks etc. Breakfast was good, but best of all were the 4 course dinners that were top notch and therefore seemed good value for high quality. Loved village central location; being close to the Coop was good for shopping; being close to park was good for late/early dog walks. Always want to provide balanced feedback so if I had to give one negative point it would be that being an old building, you can hear noise from outside the bedroom, but it didn't disturb us at all so a minor point of note. Otherwise a great stay and it was tough to leave which is always the best feedback you can give.

When we booked we had been told that they could only fit us in for 3 of our 5 day visit, but the owner was able to recommend a nearby b&b, which was also very good, for the other two days. Due to the lateness of our booking we had to agree to moving rooms, which turned out to not be a problem.

Our first room was called Beatrice which was large, comfortable and had a great view of the nearby hills. The bathroom was also very good. The only minor improvement that could be made would be to have a larger screen TV which would better suit the size of the room.

The next two nights were in a room called Judith which we were warned would be smaller. It was but to be quite honest was absolutely fine. Plenty room for two, with the TV better suiting the size of the room. The bathroom was a good size and again with a first rate shower.

Now to the food. Each night we felt the food was of a very high standard with a wide range on offer. It was also nice to always be offered a soup/sorbet course. We never saw the chef, but wonderful job and much appreciated.

The mostly non UK staff were a delight. So friendly, lovely people who couldn't do enough to help you.

We liked the smaller size of Grasmere and will definitely use it and this hotel as our "Lakes" base when we next visit.
