This is a true gem. Small and friendly, excellent service, tea on arrival in the lovely garden. Room was very spacious and wonderful bathroom. Ours (Walpole) was very quiet and overlooked the garden. Food superb and extremely reasonably priced. Excellent attention to detail. This was our first stay here but it won't be the last.

The Hotel is situated approx.400 yards from the centre of Grasmere Village consequently no need for the car.
The rooms are spacious lacking nothing in the way of facilities and the food is of a high quality.
We believe that all the boxes are ticked with this Hotel so having stayed twice we look forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: The Wordsworth room being a ground floor room is ideal for those who have difficulty climbing stairs...

This weekend was our 3rd visit to this small hotel and we are never disappointed. So relaxing, lovely food, excellent service from the lovely staff and owner. Our room was the Dequincey on the top floor which was one of the deluxe rooms, I couldnt fault it, beautiful, with a lovely deep comfy king side bed.We have booked again for next year. Went to the Grasmere show, which was very entertaining with lots of local sports. Grasmere is a lovely little Lake district town.

Grasmere may be the most beautiful town in the Lake District and The Grasmere Hotel is certainly the best hotel. Just in town but very quiet with comfy sitting rooms and a wide lawn scattered with tables and chairs with a river bubbling at the back. Rooms are spacious, great beds and the baths will make you rethink your own - especially those heated floors. Must add that there is also enough light in the rooms (ceiling rheostats!) which is so often a problem in Britain. Best of all are Rob and Anton, who make everything run so smoothly. Anton's cooking is divine and the half pension not only means you get a fabulous dinner every night but it's good value as well. Rob gave us useful cards for just the right challenging walks (would have gotten hopelessly lost without them) and our days quickly became big breakfast, long walk, 4 course dinner with excellent wine and so to bed. Heaven. We were there 5 nights in high season, but it didn't feel like it at this calm oasis of a hotel. Will go again, the sooner the better.

Room Tip: upstairs to the back are probably the best rooms, though we didn't have one. We were on the fir...

We were first introduced to Anton, Rob and their staff at their previous establishment and have just been reunited with them at their present location. We have now stayed there twice, the last time being this month and now plan to return again. As usual the welcome was warm and cordial. The food prepared by Anton was a pleasure to view and it seemed a shame to spoil it by eating it, however the taste was fantastic. The service from the staff was excellent (nothing too much trouble). The accommodation was comfortable; we have now stayed in both ground floor rooms. The hotel is ideally situated for both walking and touring the area by car. On our first time at this hotel I celebrated my birthday (one with a zero on the end); I was given a birthday card at breakfast and a birthday cake after dinner. Superb and well remembered.

Room Tip: Both ground floor rooms are ideal for anyone who may have difficulty climbing stairs. The hotel has...

We stayed at the Grasmere hotel for two nights as a celebration of our wedding anniversary. The hotel is beautifully fitted out with a high quality everywhere. We were in different rooms each night but the staff were happy to move our things while we were out. Rob was so helpful recommending a great walk for us when we got there and putting us off a very long one the next day!! The food is first class with so much variety and excellent value if you stay at just £20 for 4 courses. The best thing, though, is the staff - they are so helpful and friendly and really can't do enough for you. I would go back and recommend it totally.

My wife and I stayed here with two other couples as part of our Coast To Coast walk.
We were met on arrival by Rob – one of the owners of this absolutely beautiful hotel. He was very welcoming and check-in for the six of us was very efficient.
The location is perfect. Right in the heart of the gorgeous village of Grasmere.
The grounds are lovely, which is where we had a drink after checking in and getting cleaned up.
Dinner was an experience. Clearly Anton (in the kitchen) and Rob (maitre d) take a great deal of pride in all aspects of their hotel and restaurant. The food was spectacular and the service was perfect. My only criticism would be that we thought Rob was a bit tough on a junior staff member who is clearly learning but still doing a great job. Such is their perfectionism.
After our evening meal, we retired to the lounge for coffee and tea, where Rob brought out a cake for one of our group who was celebrating their birthday.
Breakfast was probably the biggest and highest quality spread we had on the whole Coast to Coast walk.
The packed lunch was of a similar standard to the other meals.
Rob and Anton have renovated the entire hotel with care and pride. The lounge area and dining room were very nice. Our rooms were immaculate and the en-suites amazing. They were much larger than you would expect in a hotel of this age.
I have rated this as 5/5 but would have given it 6 if I could.
My wife and I hope to return one day to do Helvellyn and Striding Edge. It will give us a great excuse to come back and stay again (and for longer) and do some other walks in the area.

Room Tip: My tip is to take any room but try and stay as long as you can.
