enjoyed five nights at this hotel which was recommended by friends from church. it was a joy from the start. glynis and simon were so kind and helpful. our first dinner was superb, we were first brought appetizers which we then looked forward to each evening. the quality of courses and choice was outstanding, standards remained high each evening with little repitition. breakfasts offered a wide and varied menu setting us up for a day in the lovely lake district. each day we returned to our comfortable room in time for a leisurely bath anticipating the food that we were to enjoy that evening. we still smile about the soup [it was lovely] and we are still not sure what a shooter is! but it was delicious. the wine list was extensive.
we will not mention the weather!!

Room Tip: rooms were excellent so should please most guests.

We booked Oak Bank several months ago to attend the beer and music festival in Grasmere. It looked fairly standard 3 star on the internet but we were delighted to find Oak bank far from standard 3 star! Our rooms were excellent especially lovely large bath great for post hiking soak. The main wow factor though was the food and service in the restaurant. It rivalled top -end hotels such as The Angel Hetton and The Host and the bill was a fraction of the mentioned hotels. Simon and Glynis have really got it right .Room 15 was on the warm side as it s over kitchen but thats a plus for winter booking.Lovely to dry wet walking kit in boiler room too. Thoughtful service

We have just returned from our second trip to Oak Bank and met Simon and Glynis who had been on holiday when we first visited in March 2011. This couple and their staff certainly know how to make a success in the hospitality business. The hotel is beautifully appointed and we chose to stay in the Iris Room (No.2) which has the added advantage of access to the balcony and loungers. Again the food was out of this world and the little touches at the beginning and end of the meal and knowledgeable information about drinks and wine show how to make guests feel welcome. Thank you Simon and Glynis for a lovely couple of days you are worthy of your AA stars.

We stayed here on a Friday and Saturday Night at the beginning of August. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Glynis, who was very welcoming and did not flinch when my Husband managed to knock a picture of the wall with his bag! The service was excellent throughout our stay.

We booked the Iris room which, whilst not particularly large, was more than adequate. There was a sizeable wardrobe and plenty of space for our luggage. The room was tastefully decorated with nice furniture and a four poster bed. There was also a balcony overlooking the garden with two lounger style chairs. The bathroom had good quality toiletries, there were bathrobes for our use and the shower was hot and powerful. Both the bathroom and the bedroom were very clean (the mirrored bed side tables and dressing table must take work to keep clean)! with the exception of a couple of small stains on the carpet. The owners can hardly be blamed for that and it did not detract from the quality of the room. There was free wifi available. The hospitality tray included fresh coffee, tea, hot chocolate, biscuits and even a small decanter of sherry.

Breakfast was served with a smile, there were cereals and yoghurt and a good choice of hot food. I had the kippers one morning and scrambled egg with smoked salmon the other morning. Both were very nice. We ate in the restaurant on one night (although I did note that the menu changes every night). The food was of a very high standard and exceptionally good value for money - particularly if booked in advance as part of the package. There was also a nice selection of wines, with a variety of prices.

We had no issues with car parking. You can park on the road from 6pm to 9am without restriction in any event.

Grasmere itself is lovely. We had a meal in Tweedies bar on the first night, which was nice, but was eclipsed by the food in the Oak Bank. However, if you fancy a pint of real ale Tweedies was well worth a visit. We strolled down to the lake at Grasmere and walked back through the woods and enjoyed some beautiful scenery.

Overall a very good hotel, good value for money and highly recommended.

Was our fist trip to the Oak Bank Hotel and we where not disapointed.

The welcome was great, the room was very noce and the food was excellent and great value considering the standard.

Can Highly recommend this hotel, the management and staff were very friendly. It felt comfortable but not stuffy and a relaxed atmosphire.

Is a great contrast to Grasmere as as a town it can be very busy (in a nice way) but its amazing how much quieter it gets after 5pm.

Lovely location and hotel Thanks Very Much
