“A fantastic gastronomic experience.”

Looking for a break from work, I wanted a weekend away with my girlfriend in a lesser known spot of the Lake District. I checked this website and was highly impressed by the consistently glowing reviews that this hotel had won - and, in particular, the myriad comments about its exceptional dining.

The hotel did not disappoint.

Our room had wonderful views across the gardens and towards the hills. It was immaculately clean and a comfortable size. The hotel in-room literature was very informative and explained anything you could possibly want to know. And the hotel itself was well situated in the heart of the village.

But it was the dining experience that stood out for us.The food was incredible - both at breakfast and dinner. Each course was exceptionally well-prepared, looked wonderful and tasted even better. You will smile throughout the entire meal. The waiting staff were terrific, you weren't rushed and nothing was too much trouble.

If you're looking for a cosy hotel with sumptous food in an idylic area, look no further.

Recently returned from a very agreeable stay at this hotel. The room was comfortable, the location perfect for a stay in the lakes but the real plus for us was the superb food. The whole dining experience was faultless from pre dinner drinks that were good value with an excellent choice, to the food which was to a very high standard indeed. This hotel is just big enough, the staff are all very friendly whilst remaining professional this reflects on the whole hotel as it has to be one of the friendliest hotels we have ever stayed (Which is a lot!) The wine list is good and is reasonably priced. Overall this is a very good hotel with private parking for residents and very reasonably priced, dinner b&b is a must! we will certainly be returning.

Just returned from our second visit to the Oak Bank hotel. We went back because of the fantastic food, clean and comfortable rooms, super location, and great atmosphere in this friendly little hotel. We were reminded of all of the special little touches that are provided by Glynis and Simon to make the stay so enjoyable. All in all this is a great hotel, and we would recommend it as an excellent choice for anyone visiting the Lake District.

Another wonderful stay at Oak Bank Hotel. Perfectly located in the village of Grasmere, in the heart of the Lake District. Our room was very comfortable and the food was excellent with plenty of choice. A nice bar/lounge to have pre dinner drinks and meet the other guests. Hotel has plenty of free parking, a must in such a popular village. We will be back again next year.

We have just returned from a 2 day break at the Oak Bank Hotel. On arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome and the friendliness of the staff continued throughout (a particular mention to the young waitress who was so lovely). Our room although small was comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. However, what makes this hotel stand out is the fantastic food which can only be described as a fine dining experience. Although this hotel may not be the cheapest in Grasmere it must certainly be the best value for money. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Choose one of the larger rooms if staying for more than a couple of days.

We had a delightful 2 night stay at this excellent small hotel. It is situated very close to the centre of Grasmere, but quiet and with fields across the road. Our room ,like the rest of the hotel, was traditionally and attractively furnished. The dining room is attractive and light with a large conservatory. Food was excellent and quite imaginative, and restaurant and bar service friendly and attentive. Their meals-inclusive tariff was competitively priced and good value. We have no hesitation in recommending this place in Grasmere, which evidently offers a lot of hotel choice.

My wife and I stayed in Room 2 with a balcony overlooking the garden. The room was nicely decorated and generally very clean (There was some rubbish on the bathroom floor when we checked in but not enough to complain about, i would guess it had fallen off a dustpan while being cleaned).

We were expecting a private balcony so was a little surprised when i opened the door and popped out to find a couple sat out there already, so it might be worth people knowing that fact in advance. It's more of a roof terrace really, but very pleasant and relaxing either way.

The hotel foyer, lounge and common areas were spotless and very modern - the decor was either recently updated or just in good nick.

The owners were very pleasant and guests seemed happy to relax in the lounges together, although we didnt really make any use of them.

Grasmere is wonderful. Easily our favourite spot in the Lakes, and it would be hard not to enjoy staying here, but this hotel certainly allowed us to have a very relaxing weekend.

The facilities in the room were fine and certainly no less that expected or required. The free wifi was quick enough, the spa products in the room were very nice too.

The hotel has a link with a nearby Spa hotel but we didnt get around to using it. Our sat nav suggested it was around 10 minutes away but not being on site, and a warning that we wouldnt likely get in during their busy time (4.30-6pm) meant it wasnt really much use to us.

We've stayed at other hotels in Grasmere with pools on site which added that extra bit of luxury but with that said, the price reflects that those facilities arent available, and offering use elsewhere is better than nothing. Had we stayed longer or later in the year during longer nights, we'd probably have made more use of it.

The standout part of the stay at Oak Bank was the food in the restaurant. I dont think the owners make enough noise about their food on the website or the hotel literature, because it was possibly as good as any food i've eaten in the UK and certainly the best 'hotel food' i've had the pleasure of.

The menu changes daily so there is a limited choice of 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 deserts each day, but over the two nights we stayed only one choice was retained in each section so the choice was enough that it caused a slight headache.

The small appetiser while perusing the menu was a nice touch and the small cup of soup before the starters arrived was really nice both days. I had sea bream mains on the first night that was really excellent.

Overally, we loved our stay and while we might chose to try another hotel next time we visit Grasmere purely for variety, it would be tough not to return to Oak Bank.

The whole stay felt like great value for money. There is a premium for staying in such a wonderful little village, so it's by no means cheap, but you really get every penny of what you pay for.

As a final note, we popped into the new Daffodil Hotel which has recently been re-opened by the lake side on the main road into Grasmere from Ambleside just out of curiosity. It felt soulless in comparison and like a bit airport hotel, which if staying in quaint, quiet, humble little Grasmere would just feel wrong. I'd far rather support the more personal, smaller hotels, like The Oak Bank.

Room Tip: I havent rated the swimming pool as we never made it over to Langdale Spa which the Oak Bank offers...
