A special anniversary and the requirement for somewhere special identified this hotel because of excellent reviews. On arrival it was obvious there were adequate car Parkin facilities. Although experience did show that it could be a bit tight when full. The reception was friendly and efficient. The room was scrupulously clean, well decorated and furnished. We did have a superior room and the usual drinks tray was added to by ground coffee/percolator, bottled water, sherry. Each was replenished each day. There was a fully functioning flat screen tv .We were impressed that the bed appeared to have been completely remade each day, not just shook up.
This standard of attention to detail was apparent throughout the hotel.
The food was superb. Breakfast offered all the expected choices plus a couple of unexpected.
Dinner was a pleasure from the very start of the canapés, soups were the finest we have tasted, the cooking, presentation variety were beyond what we had expected from a three star rated establishment.
Overall management and staff where obviously committed to ensuring that guests had a relaxing, pleasurable time in a hotel that is enitrely ' at home' in the ambience of Grasmere.

We have just had a very enjoyable long weekend at Oak Bank. The evening meals and the breakfasts were all excellent, well cooked and beautifully presented. I especially loved the little expresso cups of intensely flavoured soup which were served as an entree prior to the starter course with the evening meal. They were absolutely delicious and were well varied each evening. The apple tarte tatin with apple ice was also a totally divine pudding!

We were in room 12 which was small - we had expected it to be as it is described as such and it wasn't a problem - but what it lacked in size it made up for in the lovely view of the fells which greeted us each morning- a real bonus. The bed was very comfortable and the room and the en suite were spotless.

I would definitely recommend Oak Bank Hotel.

We only stayed one night as we wanted a last minute night away but we would have loved to have stayed longer. The hotel is small but clean friendly with every thing you need. The lounge area is comfortable and the log fire makes it more relaxing. We enjoy good food and this is something we always look for if we want to dine. The evening meal is well worth booking, we had a fantastic meal which made our night away more memorable. This hotel will be one we will return too. Anyone who likes excellent food with good service should try this hotel.

We stayed 3 nights in this lovely hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We booked somewhat late after a change of plans led us to the lakes district and were lucky to get the last two available standard rooms. Hotel staff were friendly and always helpful. Our rooms were on the small side, but very well equiped and with romantic country linen and decorations. The highlight, however, was the fantastic full breakfast and flavorsome evening meals. My teenage daughter is still raving about the exquisite fish dishes and wonderful game meats with accompanying french style jus (and we spent 5 weeks touring italy after this, yet she still felt this place was her highlight of the trip). Other positives include the free internet (which actually worked well from our room), the convenient location in town, and the ample available parking. The hotel itself is certainly not a 5 star luxury resort (unlike the quality of the food), but it was still very much a lovely place to return "home" too each night after a long day of walking.

My girlfriend found this hotel whilst surfing for a good deal in the lakes. Having spent most our visits in Ambleside we chose the Oak Bank due to the rave reviews about its dinner, bed and breakfast deals.

The hotel...... the staff are friendly courteous and always willing to help.

The entrance, lounge area and dining area have been furnished nicely and create a comfortable environment to kick back and rest after a long days walk. The lounge area has a lovely open fire where you can pass the night if this is what floats your boat. The dining area is spacious and has modern furniture looking out onto a well kept garden.

The rooms have all been modernised which is reflected on the majority of pictures shown on this web site. Although the shower room was dated it was very clean and could not be faulted.

One thing to note. The hotel has obviously been and is in the process of being renovated. Between the lounge area and the room try to close your eyes as the blown final wallpaper and dimly lit corridor area let down what is a very nice hotel.

All in all if you are looking for a hotel that delivers in hospitality and food then this is the place to visit. Cannot emphasise too much how it is worth doing the evening meal...... Something that should not be missed.
