“Perfect in Every Way”
Reviewed 20 February 2013

We found this hotel at the last minute via the internet as our favourite hotel in Bowness was full. The Oak Bank was so good that we will definitely be back. Everything ran like clockwork but seemed to be so effortless although I'm sure a lot of planning must go on behind the scenes to make this happen. Our room was perfect, it was well decorated, the bed was comfortable and there was a good selection of tea, coffee, biscuits and an extra touch of sherry each day. There was parking directly outside the hotel and it was well situated for the village itself and for several walks which are on the doorstep. The food was delicious and we spent all day looking forward to the evening meal which changed every day. Pre-dinner drinks were served in the lounge with canapes and a four course meal followed together with coffee back in the lounge. There were two lounges one with an open fire each night and the other with magazines and information on the area. The food was some of the best we have tasted in a hotel. Breakfast was equally good with a range of fruit juices, cereals etc. and a choice of hot breakfast too. It was of equally high quality. The staff and owners are all really friendly, down to earth and had the balance just right. What sets this hotel apart is the excellent food , friendly staff and the owners having their finger on the pulse. We hope to be back and wish the Oakbank well - Thank you for a thoroughly relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Superior Room was worth the extra cost.

We have visited several times and it is always a delight. Simon and Glynis are excellent hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The food has always been central to the experience and remains delightfully creative - especially the puddings! A great wine list tops-off the dining experience. The rooms are recently refurbished and have lovely views.

We've stayed at the Oak Bank twice now and many things keep drawing us back. Firstly, the rooms are comfortable, and there are several touches which reveal an unmistakeable commitment to customer care, like a little sherry decanter together with the tea and coffee offerings. The beds are firm and the staff are lovely. Glynis, Simon and all the waitressing staff are charming. My highest praise however, must go to the chefs, because the food is out of this world. There are five courses at dinner and each one of them is exquisite. I've never eaten food like it and the artistry, skill and imagination involved in every dish is superb. I would never consider anywhere else in Grasmere now.

Room Tip: We chose 'Fell view' which overlooks the road. Probably quieter elsewhere, although Grasmere...

What a fantastic new year break at the oak bank. This was our second visit to the hotel but our first to celebrate new year, the owners Glynis & Simon make you very welcome, from the moment you step through the door & all the other members of staff do a fabulous job.The food is excellent from breakfast, afternoon tea & of course not to mention the gourmet of evening meals , we have never had so much choice. Many of the other guests made it a very enjoyable stay including us , even though some have been visiting for a number of years .The fireworks were superb & the dj (Simon)was excellent getting us all dancing to party songs even gangnam style !!!!!!
