I think all has been said in the title, but, never one to use two words when twenty will do i will carry on. We stayed yet again last weekend meeting up with our friends from Nottingham as we often do, this was not our first visit. We have been going to this hotel for years now. A trip to the Lakes means The Oak Bank Hotel for us. Nowhere else is the same. Unfortunately, we could only book a standard room "oh no I cried" as we usually have a superior, not to worry, having stayed in the standard rooms before this in no way could spoil our weekend. The rooms are all well appointed with nice extra touches and everything you could need for your stay, the food was absolutely superb - it gets better with every visit but last friday nights was the best ever. But, the only way you will find out how good it was is to try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed. I have to make a special mention about Stephanie who is Simon and Glynis's granddaughter and was helping out last weekend. What a chip off the old block, if she decides to go into hospitality she will go far. Stephanie dealt with quite taxing guests (not us) extremely well, she worked hard and is a credit to her grandparents. It was lovely to see Simon back on his feet and Glynis has done such a good job coping on her own. Give it a try, what have you got to lose? and you never know, it might just be your fault I can't get a superior room next time because it is your second or third visit and like us you bounce back again and again and again - what a gem of a hotel.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are more than adequate but for a longer stay a superior room would be better.

My wife and I have just thoroughly enjoyed a two-night stay, eating in the Dining Room on both evenings. Staff are friendly and helpful; the accommodation - we had just a standard room - is fine, nicely furnished and immaculately clean; the lounge has a pleasant relaxed ambiance and the dining room is beautiful - and would be stunning in the summer, with a delightful conservatory and view of the back garden backing onto the river. And the food is outstanding.

Room Tip: The standard room was fine if just a little small and there was only a shower. We will book a larger...

Just back from a 3 day stay at this hotel. We'll, we were extremely well cared for with lovely treats in our bathroom from the Bath House range. We had crunchy homemade shortbread biscuits along with a little decanter of sherry daily in our room with a range of hot drinks too . So, along to the evening ....the log fire in the lounge was very welcoming after a long fell walk. This with a pre dinner drink relaxed us for the top of the bill - the food. We had canapés in the lounge followed in the dining room by an amuse Bouche. Before the starters which were mouthwatering, we were given a selection of homemade breads and flavoured butters. The main courses were absolutely delicious with bursts of flavours unexpectedly crashing together. Then we had a pre dessert followed by a masterpiece on a plate for the next course. The colours, flavours and textures were a delight-or if a savoury taste was preffered the cheese plater was great with an array of local cheeses. Just cannot stress enough the delight of a stay at the Oak Bank Hotel. Thanks to all involved in sending home happy guests.

Room Tip: A room with a view in the Lake District is a brilliant room. The superior rooms are larger-take your...

Only one night, as we were travelling elsewhere, but will definitely return. Food was absolutely out of this world, innovative cooking with great local ingredients, one of the best meals we have had, especially praiseworthy in a small hotel.
Rooms were fine, would love to come back in the summer when its warm and dry (it rained all the time we were there!) and take advantage of the lovely riverside gardens.
Only one, very minor gripe. The towels in the room were tiny, and of poor quality. With all the luxurious fittings elsewhere it seems a pity to skimp on these items.
But overall, a huge thumbs up!

A small warm and friendly hotel in the Heart of the Lake District. Our room was comfortable, not large for a superior room but adequate. The balcony would be more appreciated by a summer visit. As everyone else says, the food is magnificent. My taste buds are still tingling. Canapes are taken in the lounge before dining. Apart from the main dishes, it was the little touches that made the whole experience special. The amuse bouche ( a divine cheese puree with cauliflower foam with parmesan crisp) before the chosen starter. Then the little pre-dessert of apple, yoghurt and Grasmere gingerbread crumb followed by the most delicious pistachio and chocolate dessert- an array of pistachio parfait coated in chocolate, pistachio cream, chocolate sorbet, pistachio crumb and white chocolate mousse. Over two nights we tried mains of partridge, lamb and pig and were delighted with the beautiful presentation but more importantly the perfect cooking and flavours.
Hope this hotel stays just as it is!

Room Tip: A couple of superior rooms have balconies- this would be lovely to come back to after a day's wa...

Like several other reviewers on here we were tempted to try the Oak Bank Hotel after Jay Rayners' highly favourable review in the Observer last December. We stayed one night and had a wonderful time. From a lovely warm welcome when we arrived, the complementary shortbreads and sherry in our room to the incredible dinner and breakfast we were absolutely delighted. Other reviewers have eloquently described the food, and I would wholeheartedly agree with all the positive comments. Beyond the food, there are other good reasons to go to the Oak Bank - really good people, running a lovely hotel with passion and flair, a tangible warmth, enthusiasm, fabulous quality and amazing value for money. I can't wait to go back again.

The warmth and sincerity of the welcome we received more than made up for the weather we drove through to get there. Our room was very comfortable - the bed amazingly so - and, having read Jay Rayner's review, we approached the dining room in high spirits.
I can honestly say that last weekend I had the two best meals I've ever eaten. The flavours and textures were like something from another world and the "Roast Cumbrian Beef Fillet - Bourguignon Ravioli - Fondant Potato - Beetroot - Parsnip - Horseradish Veloute" which we both had on the second evening has me salivating just thinking about it.
I am already looking forward to my next visit to this friendly hotel where everything is just right.
