After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor my husband and I decided that this hotel would be a perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the feedback we knew it was going to be good but it even surpassed our expectations. Everything was just perfect. When we arrived we were welcomed by the receptionist who was very pleasant. Our room was the standard room which size wise was more than adequate (we asked to look around the superior and superior plus before we left and if its extra space you are looking for then go for the superior plus as these are very spacious complete with sofa - all rooms nicely and what would appear newly decorated and spotlessly clean as is the rest of the hotel). Exceptionally comfy bed. The room was lovely and warm and there was a hospitality tray with tea, coffee, chocolate but also a small decanter of sherry which was a very pleasant surprise especially as it is a favourite tipple of my husband, nice treat for a winter's evening. We went down for dinner. there are two separate lounge areas, and we sat in the one which has the nicely set out bar. The ambiance was perfect with a roaring log fire at the other end of the room and beautiful candles on each table. Very nice pictures on the wall too. We were handed the menu by a very pleasant waitress who also brought us very tasty canapes while we made our choices. Our taste buds were tantalised by the choices but we managed to decide on what to eat after much deliberation. The food was excellent, as good as anywhere we have eaten, and very well presented. The staff attentive to our every need but never in your face. Desserts to die for and attention to detail very apparent with the menu in general. There is a dessert wine menu which also offers a selection of nice ports (another of my husband's favourite tipples!) and cheeses. After finishing our meal we retired to the lounge to sit by the wonderful log fire. We ordered very enjoyable brandy coffee's then retired feeling delighted with ourselves for finding this gem of a hotel. Breakfast was well organised, a good selection of cereals, juices, as much coffee/tea as you would like and again you notice the attention to detail on the breakfast menu which explains where the produce is from i.e.local farms. It is very apparent that these hoteliers want everything to be perect for their guests and take great care in every aspect of their business - and it really was perfect for us. We have stayed in many many hotels in our 23 years of marriage but this is definitely one of the best, most exceptional and tremendous value for money into the bargain!! We never go to the same place twice but we have promised ourselves we are going back to Oak Bank at some point in the near future. Don't hesitate in booking this little peace of heaven on earth.
