Owner description: Attached to Dove Cottage, The Wordsworth Museum lets visitors discover Wordsworth's amazing life and what inspired and influenced him. Orphaned as a child, he attended Cambridge University then went on a walking trip across Europe during the French Revolution. He returned to England, determined to change English literature by writing in language that everyone could understand and about subjects that would outrage the establishment. Displays include pictures, letters, personal possessions and original manuscripts, written in his own hand, showing how he amended and re-wrote his work, striving for the perfect expression of his ideas - which still are relevant today.

“Even for non-Wordsworth aficionados, this museum is charming”

The exhibits are varied and well laid out. Every poem is set in its context, with paintings and illustrations alongside, recordings by others of WW's poems, many fascinating letters written by his sister.

“If you're in the area, then go.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2013

If you're not in the area and make a special journey from, let's say, America, you may be disappointed. Interesting overall. Take the tour of the cottage, we had an excellent guide, with a great sense of humour.

“Interesting.”

We didn't visit this year, but we have been previously. Interesting little cottage showing an insight into how the Wordsworth lived. Usually there is a different exhibition each year, and frequent talks.

“Good for a rainy hour.”

Very pleasant and knowledgeable staff but lacking a little in atmosphere. There was not as much about Wordsworth as I had anticipated and it could have been more interactive.

“Worth the visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2013

If you're into poetry or English literature or not, its still worth a visit. You can visit the house and museum within a couple of hours. It has a tiny little garden which is excellent in perfect weather. The trip includes Dove cottage, home to the Wordsworth family, where they've kept everything intact from their times.

A must visit if in the area.
